June 8-14 Concord NC to Norwalk, OH.
seriously considering doing the long haul by thrashing to get the 57 built enough, would be a fitting test of a car that has been dormant for 40+ years. Looks like around $1000 of oil pan, brakes, fuel tank would get it mostly moving, plus some tires for the original rims.
Do not want to do that trip in the Wartburg, saving that bombshell for drag week when the kids get bigger.
what’s the tl;dr on power tour?
Hot Rod Mag, old big muscle, and driving town to town for a week? Or am I missing something?
I’ve got a buddy working on revamping a ‘70’s mustang with his step-kids to maybe run Power Tour, one day.
Old school, new school, basically whatever is cool. I could probably pull if off in the WRX, but i want to do it in 50’s style and class. Basically that though. I need to experience it.
Gotcha, thanks for that. Yeah, the ‘57 will be a cool time to have there. I look forward to following along.

In reply to sleepyhead :
More of a tour and less of a competition compared to Drag Week. All are welcome where as you have to apply to Drag Week.
Power Tour Long Haul is the name given to those who do the whole route. Most just do one town or two.
Interesting: Ft Wayne is not a drag strip. It is just an arena. An arena that was originally built to for the basketball games of The Ft. Wayne Pistons before they moved to Detroit.
The ft Wayne stop is certainly diffrent. Might have to get motivated and atleast join the ft Wayne too Norwalk leg.

It's basically a rolling car show. It was supposed to get the guys out of their lawn chairs and on the road, when automobiles belong.
I’m registered for the Power Tour this year! I’ll be going with my dad in my 1969 Cougar convertible. I’m pretty excited for the event and am working on the car today.
I booked the event and hotel rooms early January thru the Motor Trend events planning group. By the time I called in on January 10th some hotels were already sold out as was the VIP registration.
Hotels? Oh yeah. I should probably book now then cancel later. In indy there’s always Gumby’s garage floor.
cool, I like events that try to get people out of their lawn chairs/garages and the cars onto the road... my FIL is very much of the former, and I am very much of the latter.
Also, I probably could have easily swung doing most of this route after dropping one or both of the sleepykids off with said in-laws. Oh well, maybe there'll be another chance.
Yeah I checked before the holidays and the travel group handling the event had the hotels listed. I didn’t think to book them directly at that time though in hindsight that was a mistake.
The PT rolled through Detroit a couple of times in the last few years. My dad, my oldest son, and I went see the group at GM’s Milford Proving Ground facility. They set up the cars on Black Lake the massive asphalt pad. It was a cool show spot. GM was running high speed Camaro testing on the track at the same time so you could hear V8s roaring in the background for extended periods. Pretty amazing soundtrack to the event. We got on some of the test track banked curves on the way out which was pretty cool too.
We were hoping to go but the wife still isn’t likely going to be up to it and I have gotten nothing done on putting my Monte Carlo back together. Maybe next year.

Went to a Power Tour stop in Biloxi/Gulfport Mississippi a couple years ago. As someone else said a traveling car show. Lots and lots of cars of all kinds to look at. Also had a vendors area with things to look at. The Tour is a bit out of the way from my area but will do at least a couple legs sometime in the future. If come near you worth the time to go see. Everyone was friendly and wanted to talk about cars.
