How many Challenge cars are really running on the Thursday before the event?
Alan,
Good concept, but we'd become obsolete... lol
My issue would be being able to get away for more than 1 day (that weekend always seems to be chock full of events).
Another idea is to allow the car a few extra "coached" runs, where we can ride along & give (or @ least attempt ) real-time instruction...

Werd...
It's not a bad idea--but it might not be overly practical for us on an already crowded weekend with a lot of moving parts.
And what Dave said.
hmm,
what's the most widespread autocross school? Evolution? maybe GRM could approach them about challange participants getting coupons for a school discount in exchange for advertising at the event.
or are there already existing school partners? if not, maybe someone not GRM just needs to approach a driving school about a discount for advertising for them at the challenge.

Not that participating locally is a bad idea at all, but the last auto-x I drove in gave me (literally) 240 seconds of seat time. And that was during a 9 hour day at the course. Hard to learn much in that amount of time.
I'm going to look for a local school. Any recommendations other than the Evo schools?

Not local - 3 hours. We went to an empty parking lot to test out the last Lemons Amazon.
Most people are done with the drags Saturday morning, and looking for something to do in the afternoon. The banquet does not start until 7, so there is a lot of time.
One year the Martin guys had the road course on Saturday, and invited challengers over. That was a lot of fun. Our basically stock Civic did really well against the "real" cars.
My point is that it's a good idea.
If it's an equipment problem, we can all bring a few cones fom home and share. :)

I forgot about that! That is a great idea. If GRM could secure the road course for Saturday, I would gladly pay extra $$$ for the chance to go run laps on the road course.
