I know my Veloster N has a diag port in the engine bay. That likely needs something connected to get the car into service mode.

Dammit, I deleted the original post.  Oh well, it was quite simple to get it to do what he needed.  Two pushes on the start button with foot off brake.  I think what he really needed was what is normally called "key on, engine off"
