I was wondering if a sponsor was allowed for the challenge. example: in exchange for putting their logo on the car they give me a "free" battery, I say "free" because i would still count the market value of the battery in the budget just I didnt pay any actual money for it. I'm a poor bike shop mechanic so any actual money not spent is a good thing.

As I understand it, as long as you count the FMV of the battery against your $2015 budget, it doesn't matter if you got it for free or for a special discount deal not available to the general public.

Did the car have a working battery when you bought it?

I just used the battery as an example. My question is can I put a company logo/name on my car in exchange for parts and services?

You have to include the value of those parts in the budget.
