Asking for a friend... Would a 1996 Montego Blue Miata be better to sell as original or with the suspension kit? It's the older Tokico Illumina setup, with very few miles on it. Also, any hive suggested prices? Not our cheap ass prices, but selling to a regular type prices...
At 23K miles, Without. That is prime garage queen territory and most of those guys like it stock.
For price, I'd start at 8K if it's really clean. Maybe $8500-9K if it's spotless.
I think it depends on who you are targeting. If you’re targeting the BaT crowd, original wins. For driving, the FM setup wins.

My thoughts as well. I said about the same for price, and my friend didn't believe to start that high. Its not perfect, but it's clean and no rust on anything.

That looks rather nice. I would recommend redoing the interior photo without the seat cover unless the seat has damage.
Would the suspension be for sale?
I'd put on the good suspension.
Why? Because the car is already on the wrong wheels and tires and has seat covers and an incorrect radio as well as an aftermarket top. It's not going to win Pebble Beach, so it's going to sell on the driving experience and the looks. Both will be improved with the FM suspension. There's a decent chance the stock suspension doesn't work anymore too, it's 22 years old and those shocks weren't known for being immortal.
BTW, it's not the Popular Equipment Package. No power antenna, mirrors or windows or leather-wrapped wheel. It's the Power Steering Package, which means those original wheels were steel and the car has an open rear diff with no rear subframe brace.
Montego seems particularly prone to sunburn, so this car stands out on the paint quality alone.

I didn't think it was PEP either, but that's what he listed it as...thanks for the info Keith, I'll let him know.
If the car sells stock, the suspension is for sure for sale.
Edit: is he in the ballpark for price?
Out here, even with the miles, I think that's a $6-6.5k car.
I'm left wondering why there's a seat covers on the otherwise-durable black cloth seats, why the centercaps aren't on the daisies (which, as keith noted aren't correct for the car) and why the top was replaced? if it dried out sitting in the sun, how come the paint's so good? why seat covers? very rarely do good things hide behind seat covers.
not saying he's being dishonest, just the questions that come to mind when i see stuff like that.
I imagine the center caps being off is intentional, as the lug nuts are chrome, and the seat covers are on to protect the originality of the seats, which is fine.

What I know of the car: bought from original owner, older lady, who kept it in the garage and stored stuff on it. No idea on the top. Had blingtastic heavy wheels on it, got the daisies cheap off CL, don't think they came with caps. Seats are reported to actually be good, he may/should add photos of them to the add.
He's selling to thin the herd down to one Miata.
Nice looking car----- he really should take the seat covers off for the listing. For most of us, seat covers = trashed seats lurking beneath. If it's that clean---- show it!

Update for the masses... Better/worse? Would it be better on the correct wheels for the year?
eh on unless it was like M edition or mazdaspeed or 10ae wheels would matter more.

Update again for anyone who cares: new lower price. Buddy reports he had a few interested people (all from out of state...), but no serious buyers.
I like Daisey's without the caps. When I bought a miata I would take the caps off at the first stop.
