2 of my current 3 cars are on the list (Mustang & Elise) and I could argue the Elantra N Line could get honorable mention against some of those earlier fwd offerings that made the list back then. I am not quite at a year of owning the Elise but I can't imagine anything better for a raw sportscar, planning on keeping that one!

You've clearly never driven a GLH turbo, or the Charger equivalent. Light enough to handle well, warp speed acceleration that was easily taken to extremes with a little work, and only a little bit of torque steer
Mind you they made 175hp at a time when the top Mustang and Camaro were much heavier and barely topped 200, and the Corvette was not much better.
I nearly bought a Charger turbo and the main selling point was accidentally lighting up the tires from a roll at 35mph in 3rd... and it was a regular non intercooled job.
(seven of my cars were on the list, and I also had a Sentra, which was great fun even though it was not an SE-R)
