I have been lucky enough to see two of these in person, although given the rarity it may be the same one. One was at a car show when I was a kid near the DE/PA border. The other was at the Lingenfelter collection. Still one of my all time favorite machines.

From the article, probably the most accurate line I've heard on describing the 288 GTO:

Pininfarina created a car that, from some angles, retains an air of 308, but only in so far as you can see remnants of Bruce Banner’s trousers around the Incredible Hulk’s waist.
