Yikes ! Who did you order it from? I need a nice simple one wire distributor for my 5.0 project, I'd really like to avoid the vender that you went to.
How can that kinda thing happen? Mis-made or mis-marked. I thought that SFB distributors were interchangeable as long as the gear was made of the right material.
Please, more info !
Thanks,
TC
Speedway we love there service just before I called them figure find a OE replacement link with correct shaft .
"Speedway we love there service just before I called them figure find a OE replacement link with correct shaft . "
What ? ! ? ! ?
Is that some form of English?
Are you missing a few vowels and a punctuation mark or two?
Teamevil if the got a link please post it , we can figure something else if we don't find the correct length . Looking for OE one wire dizzy for 302 ford 1988 ish . I can go round and round with my wife over what we gonna have for dinner , but just looking for OE dizzy for 302 HO challenge car .
Dude, I cannot understand those sentences. Your dizzy thinking about distributors, but going round and round with the wife about what to have for dinner?
"Teamevil if the got a link please post it . . . "
Still not quite understandable English but closer, much closer. Good for you !
The 1988 Mustang distributor will have an electronic module (that ALWAYS repeatedly fails) attached to the side of it. You'll want to go all the way back to 1967 for your distributor. Points-style that will accept a Pertronix module. Something like that would be perfect. Strong, simple, fool proof wiring and nuke proof.
I have a 1986 5.0 coming back to me soon with the stock distributor on it. Engine runs really well, so distributor would appear to be working well also. If you don't find anything soon, you can have the '86 5,0 distributor as soon as the engine gets here. But it's also a module-type that's prone to failure.
Luck,
TC

Nice thank you ! We are going away from OE distributor and thought we had it from speedway . The drive for the oil pump seems to be a 1/2 short so we got wary. Looking for distributor like you say may do pertronix .
ok went rummaging - just have the efi shaft left - I used it as an oil pump primer - sorry, not much help for you there. Steel gear on an old style dist should get it done or if you're going new, you want one from a 1985 mustang GT convertible (has the right combo of steel gear for roller motor and carb fueling).
IIRC, the roller engines have a deeper distributor so that the tiny little oil pump drive has more mating surface.
Does the drive mate up, or did you see that and not try it yet?
I wouldn't surprise me if the aftermarket distributor was simply based off of the early distributor dimensions as a lowest common denominator kind of thing.
We have the oiler shaft that we can run to prime oil pump before start up like a hook to a screw gun turn oil pump >>>>>>>>>> , but distributor we are thinking not correct for oil pump to pump oil . We want a new one wire correct length shaft distributor. Thanks for posts for our challenge engine !!! I will try to make the all posts as legible and clear as possible from now on
will post speedway link of distributor we purchased in the morning .......

In reply to Cindy Marcott:
I don't think this is the distributor he was talking about. In fact I believe it is quite the opposite. This is to prevent you from distributing your head all over the pavement.
In reply to AngryCorvair:
Ow! I don't think so. It is only worn when you go on road and when riding a motorcycle
