We have 95000 between 2 cars. Mine is 32 years old with 90k. Hers is 4 months old with 5k. I am looking for another so I can have a backup for mine and pull it off the road for some repairs.

I love that the picture of 300k has the check engine light on. Not surprising, of course, but still humorous.

323K on the Truck
219K on the Rolla (chassis, ~150K on the 4AGE20)
210K on the Camry
110K on the LS400
...............................
862K on 4 vehicles. I'll leave the Toy vehicles out (Esprit 72K, HD1 80K, HD2 55K)

Something must be wrong...it is always supposed to be on in a VW right?
354,000 on my Escort..drive the wheels off it and then buy neat alloys to replace them...drive some more.
Sure in 11 years I have replaced nearly all moving parts...at least once, but it is a familiar, reliable, economical, fun car.
Start saving money for that new car that you obviously want and drive the beater until it dies a glorious death or SWMBO applies sufficient pressure to convince you that a new car is needed! Or you just feel like it!

FAMILIAR - that's a critical part of the equation. I made my decision today.
6PM: Hop in the car to head home. Turns over but won't start. Whatever, I've had charging issues. Throw in reverse, roll 10 feet, dump clutch...still no start. Hmmm. Turn key to "on" position...don't hear fuel pump. Try again...same result.
First 80+ degree day in Atlanta since last summer. 25 minutes of playing "jiggle the handle" with the main relay (which is old enough to buy itself a beer) and I was on my merry way.
berkeley you guys. She's mine. I'm giving her a bath this weekend and a tbelt kit next week...and maybe some struts...and springs...and boostS.

Absolutely, and it's cheaper than a car payment.
I use the same philosophy with the work fleet also. I have 1.3 million miles on 4 vans with three drivers. The oldest and ugliest van is the spare. It gets driven every other week or so to keep the battery up and when one of the others is in the shop.
The one I drive has 305K on it. I put another 350 on it today. I average close to 1200 miles a week. It will be replaced when the body starts looking bad or I wreck it. Other than that, I'll keep fixing it. Mileage on a newer car isn't anything to be scared of.
Total repairs for the fleet last year were a little under $5000 including oil changes. A payment on one new van would be that much.
Holy E36 M3 you guys are ENABLERS!
Sold my wife's CRV, 96k, last week.
She's DD'ing my DD, which is her old DD, a 2001 Jetta 137k.
90 BMW 325i awaiting LSD and manual conversion... 84k (what!)
94 Heep XJ 174k miles, to-do 20 items long, some quite major.
06 Evo IX MR garage queen since I've owned it. 80k.
About to add a minivan I think, and get rid of the Evo. Telling myself that I don't need a Heep, e30, AND MKIV Jetta, but after reading this thread... I'm not so sure.

I REALLY want to like the BRZ/FRS. Haven't seen one in person yet. If I bought a new or near-new car I would prefer to have a garage to put it in so I can see driving zee Golf until it dies or I buy a house.
