Does anyone know how difficult it is to swap a 318 into a '88 Dakota like the Shelby Dakota? A friend of mine has a '88 Dakota and might be able to get a running 318 from a 99 Dodge.

Eek, that will be ambitious. The 99 is fuel-injected, I think the Shelbys were still carbed. Can he get the computer/wiring harness & tranny too? The earlier Dakota trannies were hydraulic, later ones are computer controlled. I had one heck of a time putting a 99 engine into my 97 truck, everything worked okay, but the computer wouldn't talk to the gauges. Eventually got the 97 computer re-programmed for the 360. www.dodgetrucks.org has a lot of knowledgeable dodge guys.
