I am looking at a 2005 350z Track 6 speed tomorrow. I know there was a buyers guide and a GRM project car but what issue is that in?
Beyond normal used car stuff what is special to look for in the 350z? Its a 1 owner well cared for car so I'm not to concerned but just wondering what common issues pop up that I should as about repair history. Car has ~80k on it. When does the VQ need water pump/belts if applicable? What's the overall opinions on 350z? I've been shopping C5s but this is nearly 2/3 the cost of a base C5 in this area and about 1/2 a Z06. Primary sporting use would be autox in CStreet and occasional track days.
Thanks Hive
The liquid filled "bushing" supporting the rear of the differential. These tear regularly at 40-50k mile intervals. Nissan will only replace the entire aluminum cross-member with the bushing which is approximately $1400 in parts & $1100 labor. If you don't want to DIY, make sure you have an independent shop that will replace the bushing with a non-OEM bushing. There are several urethane and aluminum versions available.
Make sure its not already warmed up when you start it the first time, to check for a bleeding down timing chain tensioner.
Clutch slave cylinders are common.
The door panels buzz when a large foam piece inside breaks off and bugs you at certain RPMs when it resonates.
Wheel inner lips bend easily if driven with low pressure and hit bumps/potholes, check them all.
