Clever setup. 

I'm still waiting for a functional, affordable set of slip/turn plates, though. Whoever invents those can be my friend forever.

If you're not worried about specific angles, I use pairs of 24x24 vinyl floor tiles with table salt between them.

I tried grease - way too messy.

Newspapers.  

When I started my career, it was working for a local chain that didn't have the best equipment.  (Cheap management and indifferent employees).  The rear plates at any given location were usually seized and the front plates also sometimes were.  A half a newspaper under each tire worked at least as well as functioning plates.

Get flexible cutting boards from walmart, they come in a 4 pack. Put some grease on the flat side of one and stick the flat side of the other to it. Put that under the front tires.
