I just took an 88 Camaro V6 in trade, and mainly because it's rust-free and does not have T-tops, I want to build it. I've also got a 94 Buick Roadmaster with the Lt1 350. Both cars are automatics and I'd like to swap the engine and transmission from the Buick into the V6 Camaro. What parts will I need? Can I use same-year IROC-Z engine mounts, or is the LT1 different enough that they won't work?
Is there a proven suspension set up for these cars? When I finish it, I intend to autcross it (for fun, not competitively).
It'll never work. You should give the car to me so I can swap in my LT1 six speed combo I have sitting around.
Seriously though, it doesn't seem too tough from what I've seen on the internets. Here's a short guide I found... LT1 Swap
I'm pretty sure you'll need an F-Body trans unless you want to remotely mount the torque arm, and you'll want to swap in a better third member from a V8 car.
You can use the IROC mounts, but the LT1 a/c compressor won't fit. An a/c delete pulley will cure that, unless you want a/c, then there will be some work involved.
