In reply to NOHOME:

An excellent solution, though in the meantime my CL search did turn up a digital scale good up to... Now I don't recall, but 4-500 lbs.

Once the garage is back in some kind of order, I'll weigh the M10 and M42 I have sitting out there. Too bad I don't still have the M20, M50, and M52 that have passed through fairly recently...

You can take the 1.8L out to 2.1L, although 2.0L is more likely because of different crank availability. MM has tunes for theres, so you could even use a stock M42 engine harness as well. However, I think just the engine itself is about $8k.

M42, pending whats wrong with it.....

if its just needing rods or pistons with a slight overbore.....just build it for boost. The M42 is a stout little bugger.

Beat me to it. This should be the 2.0 Ecoboost.

Color me dense (stay inside the lines!), but I'm not finding a 2.8 in the Ford stuff at that link...

Also, I'm not clear what's meant by the "This should be the 2.0 Ecoboost" as a response to the first post...

M42 parts are expensive. I haven't dug enough yet, but a quick google has VAC selling them for $700/set (though I'm wondering if there's an error there, as they said "set of six", though I suppose it's hoping too much that the price was also leftover from something like the M52...)

The 2.5 4 cylinder Duratec was used in Ranger/B2500 from late 2001 onwards to the end.
So it's RWD, 16V DOHC aluminum goodness, should be loads of them in junkyards by now.
Swap in the goodies from a non-truck Duratec (cam, pistons, intake, ECU, etc.).
Or simply enjoy the torque as-is.

(But I still like the SR20 DET better).

The Rangers had a 2.3L Duratec putting out 143hp not a 2.5L engine. It replaced a 120hp 2.5L SOHC engine. There is a 2.5L Duratec, but it's only available in 2009 and up Escapes and 2010 and up Fusions/Milans. This info is from car-part.com (I went looking for prices) and verified on wikipedia.
