I'm the store manager at an auto body supply house and one of our customers is looking to swap an S-10 he has onto a 4wd chassis. He is looking for something in the 98-03 range. Was a 4 Cylinder S10 4x4 ever made in this years or do they have to go 6 cylinder?

I don't think they ever made a 4 cylinder T10.

I don't know about a T10, but many S10 and the GMC S15, came with 4 cyl. engines, both in at and mt. I don't know about 4x4 in they rear asked about, so can't answer for that. smiley

Just tell him to buy one of the surplus mail trucks once the postal service starts putting them on auction for pennies. I believe that chassis is a bodged together S10

According to the 1998 S-10 factory brochure that's posted on the Old Car Manual Project website, the four cylinder engine was not available in a 4x4 that year.  I don't know about other years.  http://oldcarbrochures.org/United%20States/GM%20Trucks%20and%20Vans/1998-Trucks-and-Vans/1998%20Chevrolet%20S-10%20Pickup/index.html

No 4 cylinder 4wd small trucks of any American breed, other than the Jeep Commanche, is my guess.  I know that GM never built a 4 cylinder 4wd S10, which would be properly called a T10.

You could get a 4cyl, 4wd Colorado/Canyon or an early 90s Ranger but it looks like only for a year or two.

Yep, there never was 4 cylinder T10. This is too bad because the 4 hole Iron Duke had pretty good low rpm power for a 2.5L engine. The 4 cyl engines were also much easier to work on compared to the V6s.

Yes, you could get a 2.5 4cyl 4x4, I have seen a few. I'm guessing 1985-1989? Few and far between for certain.

"T" is the proper chassis code for a 4x4, just like "K" for a full-size instead of "C".
