Apparently we now live in a world where a 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cab–dirty, tattered, repainted, brandishing custom headlights and surrounded by tarps–can be offered at $40,000.
The top and seats are available, says the ad, but the car does need “some TLC.” As is, the ad continues, it’s worth “over 150k.”
No trades but the seller says …

I'll just say that $40K seems to be wishful thinking.
I don't think this one is $5000 more than an example that has "visible flaws to the naked eye. Runs fine, but could use mechanical or cosmetic attention."
If you ever doubted that people smoke crack before posting for sale ads, here's your proof.
Check back later to see if people smoke crack before car shopping.
That's insane.

Classic case of someone looking at other 911 prices and think their project is worth that.
To be clear I helped sell a automatic that was running and fully smogged and useble for about 35K. I want what he is smoking.
I suppose the seller can list it for whatever they want but at the end of the day, the market will tell him what it's actually worth. Kinda reminds me of this Sunbeam that is local to me, that the owner has had listed for quite a few years:

I don't like 911 Cabrios, but I do like the Strosek front end, go figure lol
That's not tired, that's literally a basket case. I think there's an extra zero on the price, and that's assuming it's a good motor.
In reply to mainlandboy :
Followed closely by TVR Tasman guy in Surrey who's down to $8000 after two years.
AC 911s have gone up but not THAT much and in fact they are coming back down. I've seen a couple high mileage driver grade 3.2 Carreras in that price range recently. That one is wishful thinking at best..
There's nothing more expensive than a cheap...... Oh, but this isn't even cheap. Shrug.
Even CNBC's Jim "Bear Stearns is fine!" Cramer would recognize that as a bad way to spend 40k ... I'd hope.
40K is actually a deal, if you are talking pesos ($2150 USD)!
