I get that they didn't produce the E30 M3 cabrio here in the states, and that they're rare in their home markets too, but seriously? $48,000? Looks like it has almost 100k miles on it too.
E30 Convertible In NJ
I don't know, maybe it's just me that thinks it's insane. Maybe I can just think of better options for $50k....

True... While I wouldn't pay that, without knowing what they sell for in Europe, it's hard to say if the asking price is out of line.
I don't think so. $15K tops

That doesn't even buy you a decent tin top, even with twice the miles.

Yep. These days figure on at least $20K for a GOOD E30 M3. You can find rats for less, but all original, unmolested cars are moving up in value quickly. Add to the fact the convertible was never sold here (and few were produced to begin with), and I don't blame the seller at all for the high asking price. It's a lot easier to lower your price to sell a car than it is to ask for more if interest exceeds expectations.
The price doesn't surprise me.

I follow this market as well, having owned an '88 M3. The prices are going crazy right now. Low mileage garage queens are in the high $30k range now. Staggering appreciation.
Wife said he had to put it up for sale.

Yep and even with relatively low mileage cars, if you plan on keeping it, you can plan on a $10k engine rebuild at some point. Timing chain rails alone are $1k+
