I am musing on a swap, may never happen in real life.
For the swap I think I could either use a 4l60e or a 5l50e pretty easily.
After some searching on here I found some easy/cheap ways to set up a 4l60e without needing a transmission controller. The downside from what I saw was lack of engine braking.
Would the 5L50e be of similar strength as a 4l60e?
Would the 5l50e be able to be set up stand alone as easy as the 4l60e?
Never heard of a 5L50. Now if you're talking 6l80.... the biggest difference is pure size and weight, like 2-3" in diameter and 80# plus.
5L50 was behind Northstars in the SRX. IDK about upgrades or aftermarket support. I did a little reading on them for an idea that never advanced to the project stage.

Just noticed in this post that it said that it was able to hold the gear and engine brake.

4L60s can too, depending on the setup.
Wasnt the 5L50E used in some of the G8's? I feel the 4L60 will have better support.
4l60e can be made to engine brake with the right valve body. Here's one from TCI.
