I enjoyed watching the last couple of laps. It was really interesting watching the two miatas running with the BMW.

I need to watch more of the coverage of these races. I'm always travelling when they're on.

On a side note did anyone see the FIA GT races on speed? I wish they would at least use HD cameras. But it is cool seeing gutted out 250K supper cars going at it.

I watch a few Nascar races. The 500, mostly. I have a problem that it is mostly a 190mph parade. A pass is a REALLY BIG DEAL!!! In real road racing, whether regional SCCA or high end IMSA, there will be multiple classes with very different capabilities, at vastly different speeds, with passes every few seconds. Some very good drivers, some not so good. Variety!! A few wrecks, but that is not what the spectators are there for. Some rubbin', but that really is racing. I just really enjoy this style far more. Oh, and I have met a few world class jerks as drivers in IMSA events.

And, here's another reason: http://www.nascar.com/en_us/sprint-cup-series.html

If the video didn't link properly, its the latest "big one" from Talladega, which appears to have taken out or damaged approximately 1/2 of the field.

Is there any place online I can watch the race? I'm "deployed" right now and I would love to catch this series but I'm never around a TV that gets anything other than AFN.

To the people here, this is a given. Nuff' said.

Now try to convince the NASCAR faithful.

Not that I'm aware of. The only coverage I've found is on Speed Channel. Wish I had better news. BTW - thanks for your service.

EDIT: My google-fu is weak, maybe someone else can help here.

it links to the main page, with the headline "Ragan Storms to Victory".. if you didn't see the end of the race, David Ragan and David Gilleland finished 1-2 after a pretty intense last lap... they are both of the cars in a small independent 2 car team...

I'd like to see you start that thread, actually.

Hell I get entertainment watching the lawnmower races on MAV TV. Why are people so hell bent on bashing NASCAR. Yes it is the WWE of motorsports. Sure you can put on your tin foil hat and assume that NASCAR creates cautions to tighten up the field with 15 to go. So what. It is what it is. Get over it.

People need to bash it because it's more popular than there favorites. No one ever brings the NHRA into these arguments and they can't be bothered turning at all. Even my dog can go straight. And as little as a stock car and a Camry look alike in what planet is this a Mustang?

Figured it might change, that's why the written description. There actually ended up being two "big ones" which took well over half of the field out of serious contention. It actually was a decent finish, but what a ridiculous waste of machinery. I actually don't hate NASCAR, I just think it could be much better than it is. Lately, the shots of the stands seem to have gone from a few empty seats here and there some mostly empty sections, so maybe some of the fan base is starting to agree.

That said, road racing series that aren't called F1 don't seem to pack the stands either, so maybe its just more interesting to me.

the weather has been sketchy in central Alabama all weekend, and there was a 3 hour rain delay.. that goes a long ways towards explaining the empty stands in this case...

but 2 good races with long shot winners on the same weekend goes a long ways towards saying that the racing is pretty good..

John Force's "Mustang" looks like that because Ford and Castrol pay the bills. Funny cars were never meant to look right, hence the name.

You can bet your ass that if Oscar Meyer sponsored him, we'd see the world's quickest Weinermobile.
