To be competitive in CAM for low bucks you want something where you don't have to replace the entire suspension and you want something that's light and preferably unibody and you also want something old enough to be in CAMT. So to me, that means 3rd gen F-body or Fox body Mustang (or if you're willing to do a complete drivetrain swap, Mustang II).

Fuel injection really narrows down your options, some or the later G bodies, some third gen F bodies, a handful of box B bodies, all of the rounded B bodies, that's about it.
And S10's. full size trucks, thrid and fourth gen F-bodies, B-bodies from 88-on. Also considering crowd killers. I don't like carbs.
S10s never came with a V8 and most swaps are carbed, I haven't checked lately but I'm not sure a good V8 4th gen F body can be had under $2500. Can you run a GMT400 truck in CAM? I didn't think you could.
competitiviy in CAM isn't a real concern right now. I have a competitive auto-x ride for the next year for all the important events (not a CAM car). This is going to be my next project car/toy and I want pushrods and RWD. I know and understand GM and Foxbodies. I know and understand EFI.I'm going to the Southwest because A.) no (or very little) rust and 2.) I already have the airfare into Phoenix and the time to drive it home.
So whatever I get needs to be drivable for ~1800 miles in the summer.
One other thought is to just pick up something that is worth less there than here and bring something back to flip.
no (or very little) rust
just keep in mind on most anything from 90's & earlier unless it was kept in a garage all non-metal materials will be seriously UV degraded.
80's plastic? E36 M3 turns to dust when you touch it.
In reply to Chadeux:reading your suggestions; most nice copy's will be over his budget, but reminds me, at the shop I'm working on a 68 Plymouth Fury ragtop ,440 ,killer black paint, Large Hot Rod, NICE! Guess I should go finish up. I could rock an el Camino or the other G's.I see older stuff all day,Hell I work on them but can't afford a nice one.Pretty much over F-Bodys. YO Bob, you gonna document this Road trip??????

Absolutely. I can get interior parts here. I'd much rather replace dust that was formerly plastic than everything rusted into one solid blob that we have here.

Yeah I missed the budget part. Thought about it, never checked. I knew it was there, still didn't check.
and yes... I'll likely post along the way.
Crammit all the way! Honestly, I'm not sure why you haven't bought that one already. It's a last year 3rd gen, so it has all of the GM refinements that went into the car over the years, it's a manual trans, and has TPI. Maybe swap out the 305 for an LT1 and add a T56? Seems like a great (and inexpensive) starting point.

Number 1 reason is contacting the seller. Phone number only, and I've left messages.
Any GRM'ers in the Area hook a brother up?
And plans... I'd rock the E36 M3 outta that car until it blew up, and then stuff a cam'd 4.8 into it.
opposite side of town from me, sorry.
got something in the works..... I like the idea that I could conceivably shop Stranoparts.
doesn't answer the phone and voice mailbox is full. Seriously? If you're going to sell something you should make sure people can get ahold of you.

Doesn't meet any of the requirements except budget, but you could do your best Jim Rockford impression:

Car looks good. Optioned the way I'd want one. in a location that I need it to be. at a price I want to be.
Tell me this is a bad idea:
lightweight s-dime
How about a Lowered LT1 B-body for $1500?
Also, is this a gloriously bad idea or what?
