I've got this old trans from a 60's Chevy/GMC van with a funky tail housing and am trying to figure out exactly what it is. I believe it's a Saginaw 3 speed based on searching the web but my google foo's not to great. Anyone know of a parts # database I can look up numbers on so I can sell it?

look at the input shaft give me spine count and if there are rings or groves cut in the shaft 90 deg to splines, if so how many. That will get us maker and ratios

That is a dumbtarded way of mounting a trans. That's how you can tell it's old.

Just an FYI if you look at the input shaft of a GM 3 speed you might see rings or grooves cut in the shaft. This will tell you ratios with the trans. Saginaw 3-speed 1st 2nd 3rd No Lines (grooves) 2.85 1.68 1.00

1 Line (groove ) 2.54 1.50 1.00

2 Lines (grooves) 3.11 1.84 1.00

3 Lines (grooves) 3.50 1.89 1.00
