I just picked up an 84 non turbo 944 from my wifes uncle for 650. Its an automatic but he was the original owner. I am surprised the spunk the car has as a non turbo. Here is why he sold it so cheap - it needed brakes. just brakes. the front has faded paint but that's all. that's it. nothing else needed.
Sooooo (sung to the tune of Up on the House Top Christmas carol)
In the garage is an old Porsche
gonna turn it turb-ah!
add it a garret with lots of boost
blow the seals and let it coast
down the road, it wont go
down the road, see smoke blow!
up on the tow truck it will go!
Thank you.
I hate you.
Congratulations, and I'm quite jealous of your score.
I love me some 944, and the auto would usually be a deal breaker for me, but $650? Come on down, the Price is Right! I haz a jelly.

See the repair bill, oh hell no!
FTFY
but seriously, I need pics!!!
Yeah, pics or it didn't happen!
Rockauto parts are a cheap alternative for standard service parts. Watch the shipping, but that should get you some brakes for a little money and effort.
The only problem with the autos are the $1500 rubber damper that connects the engine to the torque tube fails eventually.
A standard clutch disc with some spacers can be used as a cheap replacement.
The auto is from VW and can be modified to some extent like many other 3-speed autos.
There's a couple of threads on the 924board about the auto and a replacement damper disc using a clutch disc.
Great score! Good luck with it!
I'll take pics of it tomorrow. im very happy with it so far. seats are beat but recaro can fix that. also, it has BOTH sets of full keys and the extra lock actually works to arm the alarm! which I found out the hard way. AND he just replaced the timing belt. original manual too in MINT condition. I have to clean out part of the garage to let it sit next to the CTSV.
A set of factory sport seats are a great alternative as we'll and 911 seats from the period fit as we'll.
Plus you can get seat recover kits for the stock seats
All of the above would be about the same cost as a set of real recaros :)
