Rebuilt 700r4 behind a SBC in my 92 Safari, AKA Jean Clyde Damn Van. Been sitting all winter. On Tuesday I started it for the first time and it started like a champ. Love that motor. Drove it around (maybe 4 miles) after letting it warm up and the fans cycled. Got in it yesterday to go to work. No reverse. All forward gears seem to be okay. I didn't actually drive it. I rolled it down the driveway in reverse, at the bottom I gave it some throttle to finish the turn out of the driveway, and nothing. Not even loading up if I keep my foot on the brake. So I drove it back up the driveway and parked it. I just checked the fluid cold ( there are level indicators on the dipstick for cold). It's at the low mark. Suggestions, thoughts, prayers? I'm going to start a support group. Hello my name is George I have a 700r4 problem. Did I mention this is the third trans in it?
Reverse servo/band is broken.
I just have no luck with this van/transmission other than the engine. Ugh
What I don't understand is the van and trans were fine when I parked it in the fall. How would the trans fail while sitting over the winter?
One quart of K&W Trans-X. (Just realized, they might have to change their name...
)
Ive seen it help stop slipping of a lot of trans that you'd have sworn were toast.
Might not help this - odd it quit when it did. But worth a shot.

It still works. Kinda.

Yeah, kinda. I'll try some trans medic I guess.
So, um, yeah, three quarts of fluid later and we're all good. Note to self, never trust the cold level mark on the dipstick. Yikes.

Well you have answered this question: Fluid leaked out.

Yeah. Now I need to see from where. It's not very wet under there. I'll check when the weather improves since I drove it about 20 miles today. My initial guess is the output shaft seal.
