I'm not sure this is worth discussing, but what I'm saying is the same thing as you are, except with my CRX. I have no problems at all getting any part I need for that car, stock or performance. I realize the same thing exists with the VW, but if its easy to get any part you need for either, then any difference in the magnitude of aftermarket support is irrelevant.
Bug is a better cruiser. It will turn more heads. That's fun.
CRX is a better driver, especially if you want to autocross. It will outperform the Bug in almost all forms of racing. That's fun.
EXCEPT: dunes, off-road, and maybe drag racing (if you are so inclined). But if you are going to build a drag racing or off-road bug, you are going to spend some money.
Don't forget- Bug has a back seat, CRX does not (if that matters).
If it's a daily driver, the CRX gets the nod. If you have to drive it in and out of traffic, again, CRX.
If you want a car that is fun because it turns heads, Bug. If you want a car that is fun (and competitive) to drive aggressively and/or race, CRX.

I agree. I don't think this is worth arguing about. Obviously we aren't on the same page here and that's okay. I keep wanting to type examples to show how awesome the vw aftermarket is, but I'm not going to do it! If any of you want to know just go buy one and bask in the glory lol.

I know the VW market is awesome. I thought I made that clear in a prior post (or two).

Welcome to GRM, where, regardless of the question, the answer is always Miata. Unless it's E30, or the wildcard, P71.

I wouldn't mind having an E30 BMW

Well said Paul agree 100%
i would have already purchased the beetle, build a nice 1835 with a blowthrough set up on a holley 2 barrel and have a blast, but then again im not a honda fan and grew up around air cooled vw's

I thought it was like comparing mangos to pineapples. They're both good!

Exactly my thoughts as well.
But I would get the VW and do this with it:
And I would love every minute of it
I would have to go with the CRX by a hair. I have a 89 Civic Si and a bug in the garage and I just love driving the Civic even if I do get the wrong kind of attention. Maybe you should buy the bug now that I think about the type of attention you get in a CRX.
