Rumor has it that the 2023 Camaro might be the last for a while. Sales have been in a slump since the 6th-gen was introduced. The '19 refresh was a poorly-received disaster. The 2020 re-refresh is barely better. The Challenger, which is an 11 year old dinosaur of a design, has been eking out higher sales here and there. According to the article, multiple sources within GM say that the 7th-gen development has been shuttered, and the staff moved over to develop the 6th-gen out through the end of the 6th-gen's lifespan in 2023. The Camaro chief engineer has already been shifted over to GM's EV development. So now might be time to get that 2.0T 1LE you've been eyeballing

That's too bad.
Not really. It's a terrible car even by Camaro metrics and the sales have been abysmal.
I'm sorry to see it go, but not surprised.
Since the release of the 5th gen, every time a newer model, facelift, or generation came out, I tried one to see if you could see out of it, store something besides 2 people in it, or enjoy it as a daily.
The answer was always no, but they gave it extra hp and edgier styling each time. They were fixing things that weren't broken, and completely neglecting serious shortcomings, in my humble opinion. Not listening to what people want killed sales. Magazines that have one for a weekend love the performance. People that use it as a fun daily buy challengers.

Interior still is way too low rent. Ergonomics are a joke. Still can't see out of it. Fabulous performing car.

I'm 6'3", never had an issue with visibility in the 5th or 6th gens. Maybe for like the first 30 seconds after I got in. Then once I got my mirrors set, it wasn't an issue.
The 6th-gen was a case of a car that performed very well but wasn't very enjoyable. It was competent but soulless.
And yet the Challenger is still being made... We are absolutely living in the darkest timeline
I loved my 5th gen rental cars... Fun performing cheap car... absolutely a blast.. I'll own one, one day..

By terrible, you amazing when it comes to performance with the 1LE package giving you warranty for HDPE?
I'm short so I thought the ergos fit me well, but dash/console still feels incredibly cheap, tough to see out of with a tiny backseat and trunk for how big the car is.
And it's too bad to see less and less performance oriented cars being available to the public.

It’s people waiting for a model3. Why buy a gaz guzzler when you can wait for the azz huzzler
The target market for Camaros is boomers. We want room, visibility, numbers and comfort. The Slopar is better at those things.
Now someone will come here and tell me young people would buy a Camaro if it was cheap and cool. Those people are lying to themselves.
So a decent GM product was GM'd to death?
This is my shocked face
The world is changing. I think in the next ten years many (most) of our "old friends" will be gone. EVs will out sell the ICE cars by a large margin, urban areas will have primarily autonomous vehicles and life as we know it will be considerably different. A transportation renaissance is in the making. It's coming and there is nothing that will stop it.

Far worse things will happen long before this takes place.
I am not surprised. I have not liked the ergnomics of any Camaro since the 70s. It seems like every generation leans you back further in the driver's seat.
Maybe Michael Bay will make another Transformer movie and bail GM out...

I’ve had a blast in the SS Camaros I’ve rented. Then again I’m used to sportcars that don’t have the visibility of a Prius or minivan.

I'm not a Boomer, hell my mother was one of the last of the Boomers, and I want all those things.
Which brings me to an important question: What's the minimum spec of Camaro that comes with magnetorrheological shocks? Teh R has me spoiled for the things adjustable suspension can do.

SS 1LE, I believe. Although GM offers a kit to put the ZL1 1LE spec bits on any level through Chevrolet Performance

I'm young. I want some of those things, but not in a sports car package. I have no desire to own a "sports car" that weighs more than my 7 series and as much or more than my Jeep. If I'm buying a sports car, it should be one, not just a boat dressed as one like the Challenger. That's part of the reason I like the Charger better, I think.

Except the S550 Mustang is better at everything than the 6th Gen Camaro like for like and the Challenger is better looking/more comfortable, and both are put together better.
I see them all over the place down here. Not as many as challengers and mustangs but they're pretty plentiful.

It's really hard for me to consider a timeline with a 760hp Mustang and a 800hp Challenger and a 2.9 second 0-60 family sedan the darkest. This has been a golden age of motoring and maybe it's changing but I reserve the right to decide later if it's changing for the worse.
@Rslifkin: The current Camaros are way lighter than your 7 series. Well, maybe not enough lighter for a sport car, but they're anywhere from 100-900lbs lighter depending on the trim level of the Camaro and of the 7 series. Remember the 6th gen Camaro is significantly smaller and lighter than the 5th gen.
