I've owned a MKIII and a z31 and the Supra was a much, much better car. Faster, better handling, more comfortable, better MPG, better brakes, pretty much everything. The only demerit was bigness.

I am not a fan of the Z31 (I'm a huge Z32 fan) but I really like the way these look. Still wouldn't own one though.

I'm sure the Supra is a better road car, being bigger and heavier, but I'd bet the farm that the Z31 would be a better autocross car. I'd say those piggish Supras would have a hard time rotating in the tight/technical stuff. I'd bet my right testie that the Z31 is a better rallycross car. I don't recall Toyota doing any factory rally work with the Mk3 Supra at all, but I could be wrong.

Wow...that was a hell of a lot easier to find than for an MKII supra...
Apparently the Z31 is supposed to have 50/50 weight distribution.

A fellow out west (Ralph Kosmides) rallied a Mk3 Supra, but not a factory effort.

Odd that this should come up. A buddy of mine owned a super-clean 87 300ZXT about 10 years ago for a couple of years. Black with grey wheels, super-sharp looking. He cleaned it up, did some boost and exhaust mods, had some fun, and then sold it when he moved down to Indy from Michigan. Well, he emailed me last night, and he's re-bought the same car, 9 years after he sold it! I guess he googled the guy's name he sold it to with "300ZX" and found him on, you guessed it, a Supra forum! Apparently the guy had just bought a Supra, so my buddy emailed him and worked out a deal to buy the Z back. I guess it's a bit worse for wear, needs suspension bushings and other rubber bits, but is still fundamentally fine.
Anyhow, I thought it was a pretty cool story.....
If I had to choose, I'd take a Z31 over a Z32. But the one caveat: absolutely no T top cars. Slicktop Z31's and Z32's seem to be pretty rare, unfortunately. OTOH, slicktop 280ZX's aren't that hard to find.

I'm the exact same... It's like you find 100 T-top Z's to 1 slicktop.
if you start with a slicktop the s130 is also the easiest to convert to turbo, the Z31 requires the frotn crossmember be swapped, and the Z32 requires you to have someone kick you in the jimmy
I dare any of you S130 haters to deny the greatness of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWF-hH1nloo

I think I am going S130. They seem to be cool BECAUSE they are an unholy union of the 70's and 80's. I also like the interior design a lot more. It is more classic looking with the analogs.
A friend of friend has a MKIII Supra that he tracks, and he says it is a good car. Apparently the suspension is design is really good, so it masks the weight to a certain extent. However, he DOES say that you can tell how heavy it is in tight sections. He also swapped in a 1jz (or whatever the hell the MKIV Supra turbos are), so that may have something to do with it as well. I sat in it to try it on, and the one thing I thought the whole time was how big it was. Granted, my last two street rides have been a MINI Cooper and a Ford Fiesta (new), so it could just be me...

I like the S130s, but I'm biased:
Is it a turbo? No. Is it the "ugly" 2+2? Yes. Was it a free hand-me-down from the original owner, my father in-law? sure as hell was! I think these have a certain character that I find appealing in that they represnt a bridge between the retro S30s and the "modern" Z31. And, I think they can look very good:
Even the 2+2:
JMHO.

Black gold is perhaps the most awesome ad ever. LOL
