so I've had this truck for a couple months and been thinking of an engine swap. my choice would be sr20 det red top or f20 n/a (honda s2000 motor). and I've been trying to find someone who has done this swap or knows anything about these swaps for my truck. can anyone help me with what i need or do or buy in order for it to be possible??????
For typical truck work the s2000 engine would be very bad, no torque.

...which I would suggest the RB20DET (I just don't like the SR20). Almost scraped my S13 swap to drop her into my ranger. As long as you've got the ECU and you can fab up some mounts, it should be a pretty straight forward swap.
Actually any I6 could be fun.
The SR20 could do well in there. Keep in mind the SR20 is an interference engine which is a killer for my engine selection process. There would be a few parts that would need to be fabricated. Mounts, maybe a drive shaft, other things depending on how you wanted to do the gauges... Do you want to do the SR20DE or SR20DET?
Not the easiest swaps, but I would look at a Toyota 2AR-FE, 4GR-FSE (DI'd engine, hard mode!) or 3GR-FE (might be hard to find).
I would expect much of the Toyota equipment will match up a little easier. Just a guess.
You wanna go nuts the 2jz-gte swaps could be outrageous. Last time I drove one, it was a little tough to keep straight with my foot down.
A *jz powered truck will be crazy fast...not the kind of swap you want for practicality and reliability, but you'll have POWARRR!
A guy I offroad with has one and it's nuts. Search Youtube to see similar trucks.
Buick 3.8 although oil pan clearance could be an issue. I believe Advance Adapters makes an adapter for the Toyota 5spd trans.

That is a big sunvabitch for an oil pan. Looks like there are plenty of performance kids to slim her down in specific areas.

3sgte? Can make 2jz levels of power, with two less cylinders!
In reply to N Sperlo:
lmao the 2j would be a hell of a freaking swap i would love it but 5grand for just a motor is a little out of my league plus ill spin all my gear with this light weight truck!!!! but i was thinking sr20det for sure just cuz I've always wanted a turbo and i know nissan is very reliable if maintained and for sure need to custom make a drive shaft but where can i do it or who can make it also my other question is the diff??? would i just rebuild it or take a diff off something and if that what do i take it off of??? also mounts who would make mounts??? or where can i buy them if made already???
In reply to sugadinksfree:
Many options for all of them. An SR20DET should be able to handle a Ford 9" (my fav). Another easy option would be the rear axle off of an S13 or S14 which would be the natural axle for the SR20, iirc.
Mounts would likely need to be fabbed. Since the 87 Toyota wouldn't be a common swap, you'd probably need to have some machined or custom made by a shop who can cut some for you. There is a guy around here that will cut anything you want, and I'm sure you may be able to find one near you. That can be tricky if you don't have the resources to measure things out on your own. Personally, I would prefer to leave that to the experts so I don't waste the cash on it.
The drive shaft will probably have to be machined. There is the length issue and mating issue, so you may have some of the parts the machining shop needs, you may not. Prices can range. I had an F150 one-piece shaft made from scratch recently for around $400.
Just be careful with the timing on that engine especially if the engine hasn't just been rebuilt. Wen it decides to break, it will take the pistons and the valves with it.
You want torque. You want Chevy 350. You want easy swap.
+1 Chevy 350. Cheap, easy, torquey. And freakin' cheap parts at EVERY parts store in ANY part of the country. And cheap.
7mgte. Bolts to your trans.

It will also bolt right into your radiator. I doubt there'd be room for fans of any kind if it does fit.

I vote 3.4 out of a taco + trd blower.
GM 4.3 Vortec with a good cam and lifter set and some headers. in a 'yota truck, it'll feel like a 350, be lighter, cost even less, and get reasonable mileage.

Good thing it's one of the most common and best documented swaps out there this side of a 3.4.
Google has tons of info. Such as. http://www.supratrucks.com/toyota_pickup_with_7mgte_supra_t.htm

We could do this alll day.
Look close at the engine bay pictures. I'll stand by my "no room for fans" statement.

and I stand by my.. Gee I'm glad it's only a super documented swap so all issues have been solved by somebody else.
but your original comment of "if it does even fit" is shattered?
I totally remember reading this is college.. many years ago. One of the 1st guys to do it..

There are no fans in these engine bays.
