I have been looking at a Volvo lately to replace my 1970 beetle. The one I have found seems to be indecent shape. A little rust on the fender but other than the body is ok. The Interoir is not the best but for $1k what would exspect.

What should look for on this car? From what I can tell it has not been in eny major wreks.

How relieable are these cars? the motor look some what clean.

Thanks for putting up with my spelling

Dead nuts reliable.

Much like the proverbial Timex.

Agreed. For example, my racer is an '83 240 which I have beat on for the better part of two decades. At 275K miles, it's getting a turbo slapped on it.

These cars are anvil-like, they'll take a lot of abuse. If you simply do oil changes, they should run damn near forever. The rust is likely the biggest issue - keep it in check so that you can keep a body over the drivetrain.

Parts are cheap online and plentiful at junkyards.

When I had my '89-240, it was dead nuts reliable. It never left me stranded, but it did require almost constant "tinkering". There are some issues to be dealt with, but there is plenty of help and info available about them, as they are common to almost all 240s. Probably the most comfortable driver I've ever owned- once the seat bottoms were fixed. That's one of the issues.
