I know I've read on here that a couple of you are 90's Toyota fans, so maybe someone here can answer my questions.
I have a '91 MR2 non-turbo (5sfe) that I am going to add a turbo to. I have an AEM F/IC6 piggyback that I would like to use only to retard the ignition timing under boost - I know it's capable of running the injectors also but I am using a 2-bar MAP sensor and Supra injectors for fueling. I'm not very experienced with ECU tuning, so my plan is to let the stock ECU do as much as possible, and limit the boost to 8 psi max.
Will this work? I've read conflicting things. Some say that the Rev1 5sfe ECU won't allow more than 6 degrees of timing retard, others say that it will work. From what I understand there is a crank position sensor in the distributor, no cam position sensor, and the ECU reads info from RPM, temp, throttle position, manifold pressure sensors and adjusts timing based on calculations inside the ECU. The instructions with the AEM F/IC are a little vague (it's a unversal model) and I can't find any specific forum that has what I need.
Anyone out there have experience with the AEM F/IC piggyback and Toyota ESA (electronic spake advance) ignition?
