so i put a set of konis and turbo sways in my 87 n/a on saturday, brought it out to autocross yesterday and on the way home i noticed a bit of drivetrain slop that wasnt there on the way to the event and the shifter vibrates surprisingly violently around 3500 rpm. once in gear and slop taken up it feels pretty normal except for the vibes in the shifter.

i havent had a chance to look at it at all yet but i have in my mind that either the clutch rubber coupler is failing/failed or the trans mount isnt doing much any more, anyone experience this in a 944?

on another note it sure feels like this car has 911 heritage built in as all i experienced all day was a surprising degree of lift throttle oversteer. made for some interesting scenery for the cornerworkers i was told

Clutch center

R&P could be broken damaged

Carrier bearings in the transaxle.

All three of these can give you the symptoms you describe.

Less likely but should be looked at

Motor mounts

Trans mount

I forgot to add that you should look at the Half Shafts / CV joints as well

i need to get it on the lift to check it out. i can't remember if there's visible access to determine the clutch center rubber, is there enough visibility to see it? i think i can hear it 'smacking' metalically when i lightly engage the clutch up near the bellhousing. soooo if it needs a clutch it's getting a v8... which leads me to the question of where do GRMers find their aluminum ls based engines?
