Ok lets just say that I really want this! I had a 97 escort that I loved and have always had a thing for the wagon. Tell me why I should not buy this.
It would make a cool sleeper, and like I said I like the wagon. The problem is the ecu issue. It is a 1.9 car. So if I understand everything I need a megasquirt.
So what do yall think?
Jesus God, I'm so lucky I'm so far away. Buy it. Let me live vicariously through you.
Why shouldn't you?
It's still an old Escort...
...would be a good reason if old Escorts weren't awesome, which they are.
It's got an open differential, so all that power is going to go into one burning tire. An LSD would be expensive/complicated.
Well, you did ask me why you shouldn't.

The only really awesome ones were the GT's with the Mazda BP motor. (Like the one I used to have.)

Will the BP drop into that chasis?
If you have the money, I can think of no single reason you should not buy this.
Other than the fact that you would be required to bring it to the challenge, and leave it purple.
1) I love GRM for the fact that a car like this is posted here to almost universal praise.
2) I want that.

I had a 5spd '97 wagon but without the turbo. A rather uninspiring vehicle. The motor was so dull I'm surprised someone turbo'd one.
Yes, I believe the BP swaps in, but if you're doing the work, go for the KLZE v6. If you want Ford Escort Owners Association

Remove those auto seatbelts and put in regular ones.
The Zetec from ZX2 and some Foci is a better fit.
My mother and I each had Escorts with 1.9s and while they were not terribly quick they were reliable as gravity with hers finally rusting away at about 200k miles and mine being totaled at 290k miles. If I was looking for a good small car I would take another in a heartbeat.
I would drive that basically forever.
Buy it! I gave my 98 to the step daughter after 10 years of daily driving. She totaled it driving too fast (late for work as usual) on icy road. Still miss it and still looking for another clean one.
I can think of no reason not to buy this car. The only way it could be cooler is if it were Dusky Rose (pink), purple or blue!

Notice the CNP ignition coils?
Doubtful that car is still running stock ECU, EEC-IV/V.
So what, it's running NOW!
When I read "needs to be tuned" I hear in my head "I've tried and tried to get this running right, I've exhausted every source, and the task is certainly impossible." Pass on it. :)
