Edit: Oh jeez the guy used "mind-numbing" wrong again like that guy from Speedhunters. Mind-numbing means BORING! I don't think he meant to say 1800ft-lbs was boring.
Wow not as expensive as I'd expected, only $35k in the battery pack, I wonder what kind of cells he's using. 2-3 years ago I worked out it would take over $10k in A123 cells for 200hp and 30 miles of range.
I have a friend who built his own electric car. He used battery packs from China and they were about $8000.00. But his car doesn't do 175 either.
I rode in John Wayland's Datsun back in 2006. I met him at the Portland autoshow and he told me to come out to the track sometime and take a ride. That car hits you in the chest like a sumo wrestler fired out of a navy battleship cannon.
I can believe $35,000 for the batteries. I am planning on $2500 for the 24v I need for my sailboat's electric inboard.. I think the concept he is pushing is the right one.
It's super menacing in person. I pass by their shop every day on the way to work, I need to swing by there one of these days...
I love the technology. And ALL THAT TORQUE available at zero rpm? Amazing!
(The 44 year old in me wants to drop in a 429 even though it'd add a few seconds to the 1/4 if I got my way)
And then it has to be trailered home after two passes...
And before the tree-huggers go ape-shot... We've known electric motors were fast for almost as long as there has been electricity. That's not impressive. If you want to impress me, do that kind of speed and quickness all day long, then drive it home. That's what it takes.
It appears to be right up there with the Dragsters with 8,000 hp.
Amazing power with very little durability/repeat ability short term.
i was at the Sandzee hamburger hut car show that day, beautiful workmanship, engineering way over my head. YES its a new world of performance cars, when he left the show,it took off like a very fast car, and NO noise, that just seemed very odd/unusual!

Ever see how long it takes a supercar to run out of fuel doing WOT? Only a few laps on a typical road course, so your complaint is kind of pointless.

We need stupid rich people to buy crap like this to subsidize the development of a future in which your demands are met. That's how it works. So do you want it to happen, or not?

Like... a few a few? Or dozens?
The main difference is that you can fill up a supercar in less than 5 minutes at a pump and continue racing.
It appears to be street legal, and regularly driven on the streets.
I see no complaint.
How many dragsters can be modified with ease to be driven on the street?
I don't even think his price point is out of line. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. However, $200K would stretch my piggy bank.
In reply to Chris_V: Tell you what. You borrow that car, and I'll borrow a Z06, and we'll go to Sebring in August, and we'll see who can go 100 miles first.
ok.. so he made a couple of passes and needed to be trailered home.. but he also had no headlights, the grill was blocked off, and the car was quite lowered. As it sat for the texas mile, it was -not- street legal. I am willing to bet that quite a few of the cars there were in the same boat.
This is the future.. you can either embrace it and encourage it, or we can drag you kicking and screaming into it later.. which way is more fun?
You'll need to log in to post.
