Sorry I didn't post a link of any kind to the article I read (yet?). But this morning while in my favorite bookstore I ran across an article on the latest attempt by tuners to produce more horsepower from the Toyobaru 2 liter. Gazoo Racing in the U.K. is working on twin-charging the 2 liter boxer engine.
Twin-charging? That's when you add a supercharger AND a turbocharger to the same engine.
I believe a shop here in the states has already gotten significantly over 300whp just with a pretty basic turbo setup, on surprisingly low boost. Seems to be a very efficient motor.
I just did a google search to find a link to any "official" news on this subject, and once again I'm the lastest with the "news". There are links to articles in Autoweek and Car & Driver that mention the Gazoo Racing produced FR-S / BRZ....dating back to MAY.
I was not aware, tho, that Gazoo Racing and Toyota have a "tie-in" that is already 5 years old.
All that compression helps make great power as long as the tune avoids detonation.

Crawford Performance is claiming over 400hp with their turbo BRZ. It was the car that got smashed by the McLaren at the Cal Auto Club track day.
Honestly I see 300 hp as the ideal, everyman power level for this car. Too much power will ruin it I think.
I think 300hp is probably too much power in a car this light for the everyman.
300 hp shouldn't be too hard with a turbo setup, that's only about 50% over stock right? Twincharging would be the "look at me!" option, trying to stand out in one very crowded market.
I think 300 whp would be just about right. We have a local shop that built a turbo one complete with tacky ass poorly applied chrome look grafix. If it didn't look so fugly I'd want to know more about it. I fear this is becoming one of those cars owned by the masses of morons that are gonna stick every faux vent and crappy piece of plastic to it that they can find in the clearance bin at pepboys.
Sport Compact Car added a turbocharger to a supercharged Mini Cooper S. It was pretty sweet.

Agreed. I just saw a flat brimmer, younger than me, complete with Red Bull in the cup holders driving on yesterday.
Hopefully they sell like hotcake Civics.

Yep, once Miatas become trully vintage, it'll be nice to have a new crop of reasonably price, reliable used cars making their way into the market.
I had heard that direct injection cars were very sensitive to tuning - and not in a good way. I wonder how many of those shiny new boxers have melted down while making those gaudy HP figures?

Probably not many, since direct injection and turbos have been mixing for quite some time, now.

You're record will likely matter more. The insurance on my '13 GT Mustang is only $10/month more than it was on my Nissan Frontier.
I'm only 30.
The vast majority of Mustang owners are older guys - less likely to do dumb things - thus reasonable insurance.

Pretty normal for direct injection motors.
Twin charging one of those would be fun. All the benefit from the blower AND the lack of lag from the turbo. Crazy fun car to drive. Expensive to set up? Yeah. Smiling ear to ear all day every day? Hell yeah!

Turbo...meh...Much more interested in the nutbar over on the FRS forum that is planting the LS6 engine in his new car.
One of the things that I have not warmed up to with this car is the endless need to be in some other gear rather than the one you are in. Turbo will just make this worse. With a LS swap and a 6 speed you could just leave the stick in 5th and call it a day.
