i picked up a 1988 735i with a 5spd. if someone said to me that BMW imported a e32 with a 5spd to the states i would of said they didnt because i never saw one or heard of one. i could see the e23 maybe or i could see it being a grey market car. they did but in very few numbers how many not sure some say 200 some say less than a 100 all i know is that they did......
i have had many e32's over the years to me they are some of the best all around cars i have driven. doing 12 hours behind the wheel is nothing and around town they are the right size not big but big enough for 4 large adults to enjoy themselves and be comfy. when i get behind the wheel of a 7 i set the seat and wheel to be comfortable and i drive it that way i dont think of how i am going to enter a corner or exit. i am looking around at the world around me and just driving......
my nephew and myself went to Dexter Mi from Pittsburgh Pa in my M6 to pick this car up. i looked at car closed the deal and got in it. first thing i did was adjust the seat and controls for a nice ride back. well that lasted to the first traffic light. i swear this car felt like it lost 2000lbs because of that 5spd. we had to run 12 miles of a two lane blacktop road to the interstate when we stopped for fuel before we got on the interstate my nephew walked up to me and said "i did'nt expect to be seeing 100mph plus runs today is this what its going to be like the whole way back"
does a 5spd in a e32 work yes it does...but if i had to choose a auto over a 5spd i would chose the auto....but faces of people when you smoke the tires thru first and second is priceless
They're neat cars. A friend of mine has one, and I've seen a couple others here and there.
I would love to see one.
I still get a kick out of the 5 speed in my Volvo 850. People are -not- used to manual transmissions in anything but sports and small cars. To see one in a mid-sized or larger blows minds

I thought they blew up The Transporter's BMW in the first movie.. Nice catch, i'd love to have one.
I thought I saw one for sale recently here (Pittsburgh) and thought it was a mistake. I guess not, enjoy! (And you should have stopped in for a beer while here)

No. Territorial is north of town and I live south, between the village and I-94.

You could get a Mercedes S class with a stickshift if you were in Europe until the... 90's?
our saturn chumpcar world HQ is in Dexter MI
I always loved the E38's, especially with the sport package, M split wheels, etc. I still think they were one of the last clean, classic looking BMW's. Definitely the last 7 that looked nice. I would rock one, though I hear they are a bit of a maintenance nightmare. Not sure how true that is.
I had no idea an '88 735i was a 5000# car.
I know they're big, but wow! I think my C1500 tips the scales at a bit over 4000#.

Ye 'old wiki says 3800lbs for the normal E32 7 and 4200lbs for the long.
Not that it matters.

Manual trans S class cars are rarer than, well, they're really god damn rare. It was a 6 cylinder and AMG only deal as far as I know.
