Had to go up to Brainerd today. There was a SVRA event up there and I wanted to see how the rules are . And class set ups. Etc.
really modest entry Due to the big Vintage race at Elkhart Lake Only 3 group 6 cars where typically Elkart Lake gets 40-60
So what did you figure out?
In reply to MrJoshua :
The XJS will likely be in Group 6 GT, most cars have sizable fender flairs. Only 2 tires are legal. Goodyear blue Streaks and Hoosier TDR's (both Treaded )
In reply to frenchyd :
Was that a mid-'60's 2 door post Ford Falcon or Mercury Comet? Extra points to the owner if it's a Comet.
Yes! Wasn't that cool? Talk about patina. It's like he popped the hood, tucked a racing motor in and some wider tires( 15" Goodyear Blue Streaks). and went out and had fun.
Sounded decent. Faster than the herd of Mazda's chasing it. Nice guys, open, friendly, and fast.
There was also a Firebird and a Camaro there in Group 6. Where I'll be racing by next year. All of them claimed 550- 580 horsepower and sounded like it.
Yes it was a Falcon. Not a Comet.
Get that jag running and join them ASAP!
Also glad that wasn't you or geographical closer Wally taking the "bus" out at Lime Rock today.
It was a bit of a shock that all of the cars I hope to race with were making so much power. While that is achievable with a V12 we are obviously no longer talking junkyard parts. Accordingly I likely added another $5000 to my racing budget.
I'll still put my junkyard motor in for the challenge. But be building a proper racing motor for Vintage racing.
