Our 2009 entry is nearing readiness so I thought I'd share a little preview.
We started with a 69 olds which had been stored outdoors, no top, very rusty. Ran but had a "rod knock" thus we got it for $500. Turned out it was a cracked exhaust manifold not a rod knock. Some liquid metal stuff made by permatex sealed the manifold. Had to rebuild the brake master and 1 slave and replace the alternator.
Welded up some very ugly holes in the floor, patched a bunch of smaller holes in the wheel wells with fiberglass
Some rustoleum a roller and a few hours and it looks good in photos
Budget interior refurb
Real gauges, pimpin steering wheel and obligatory bare foot gas pedal
Add some pinstriping, vinyl graphics and the FSM to watch over us
54 Olds Rocket hood ornament (appropriate since the costume theme is astronauts)
"New" tires on some BABE bling $40 tru spokes
with customized center caps
Finally an emergency top and rally graphics
Just about ready to roll. Should be an interesting year.

Awesome . I think it would be impossible not to have a good time, bombing around in that old thing.
What's the top made out of? Tarpaulin?
That looks like such a blast! Have fun!

Yep, just a standard hardware store tarp. In the past 3 years we have never gone completely rain free so having a backup plan seemed in order.
It is a stupidly fun car. I just recently got my 50 Studebaker and look forward to cruising it this summer but I must admit if this thing survives the rally and the BABE v. Lemons drag race at the end then I may just end up cruising it all summer.

Look'n good. That god you did not "murder out" the O' girl.
P.S love the pin stripes. Been thinking of doing some to the Crown Vic this summer.
Definite no on the "murder" I like the chrome on flat look.
If you've never tried striping get yourself a Mack 00 brush and a can of one shot and just start learning, Its alot of fun and you can get some good results pretty easy. I can't pull a long straight line to save my life (as you can see by the ones running the sides of the car) but my detail work and small designs have improved.

The one in the background of the first photo? Not mine, that pic was taken at the sellers house. We did have a 69 Caddy before this, nothing wrong with it but I cant resist a cheap drop top :)
