Heh. Awesome.
I absolutely disagree that there is anything cool about this. The eco-activists see a spray painted gas guzzling sports car and cheer. They say, "That'll teach that prick to drive a non earth friendly Prius." There's nothing funny about vandalizing someone else's property, even if you don't like it. Especially if you don't like it. Personal freedom of choice it's a hallmark of America. Support it.

If they start flipping Prius's in San Francisco, they're going to be awfully busy.
hate you want on smarts, but there is little out there that'd be as much fun as a spec smart series, and since body panels don't need paint and pop into place it makes sense from a cost standpoint as well. Who's with me...
Geraldo was right! Ban the wearing of hoodies!
Seems like a group of rowdy, drunk hooligans. I doubt there is any political message involved.

No excuse for vandalism of any kind. My comment about the leaf, volt, and prius being next was made in jest. It's just ironic that it is being done to an "eco" car.

Make turbo'd "BusaSmarts" attainable for the common man, and I'm with ya!

If these were manly men, they would have sought to best a more formidable foe. Heck, any three or four drunk weenies can flip a Smart car, or so I would suppose...
Remember when Earth Liberation Front burned dozens of new SUV's (Suburbans and Tahoes iirc) at a dealership.
Bet they STILL don't see the irony in that brilliant plan.

Nope, loved mine and when my daughter is done with it (contemplating getting her a fiat when she graduates college) I'll have it back and start to play with it more. Fun little car that did 140 miles a day at 85mph on the highway for 110,000 miles and never let me down.
And fully agree that there is nothing funny about the vandalism of another persons property.
"...Anti-tech statement..."
What's so tech about a Smart car? It's just a small car with a lot of plastic and a good marketing department.

They don't use them thar carburators. Damn technology! Tip 'em!
reminds me of when I was in high school in Italy. One of our classmates had a Fiat 500 (the original one). At least once a week various groups of people would pick up his car and move it around the block, or someplace else in the lot, or onto the soccer field. Nobody damaged it or vandalized it (though it was a beater anyhow) but just moved it.
After a few months of this he started chaining it to a lightpost. Sadly this was long before smartphones and digital cameras :(
(disclaimer, I may or may not have been involved in this car-moving activity on an occasion).

This reminds me of an incident I once witnessed in high school. Watched this guys friends pick up his Festiva (I think thats what it was), turn it 30+ degrees sideways in the parking spot, then park their trucks on either side of him. No way Festiva guy was getting out on his own lol

True, but these punks are from California, that's why it takes 8 of them.
I read through the comments after that article.. the hate for the smart is very high. I think most people do not understand what the car was designed for.
They are not meant to be eco-friendly, nor high MPG vehicles.. they are designed to be easy to park in crowded cities. If I had to live in Philly or NYC and had to have a car.. it would be a smart
yup, they're Euro/Caribbean-influenced really. Many places outside of the US allow nose-in parking in parallel spots for micro-cars like the Smart.
"Screwing with other people's property is cool and damaging it for no good reason is a funny prank!" said no respectable person ever.
