Awesome car, but if you can't restrain yourself from flooring the loud pedal, you're going to pay for it at the pump!

If i’m spending 70k for 797hp I don’t care how much fuel it guzzles
you should be exploding with awe over the 22mpg highway number.

Seriously. Almost 800hp and over 20 on the freeway? In a 4500lb pig? Not so long ago that was science fiction.
The more important point, though, is that with the Demon and this "super" Hellcat out now, it's probably a good time to get a deal on a regular Hellcat, if you can make do with 700hp.

Absolutely.
I've had many cars that didn't make over 150HP and struggled to reach 15 mpg hwy.
Pretty amazing time we're living in.

Oh don't get me wrong, I totally agree with all the above. It's just very interesting to see a car with this much power that can gulp fuel like no tomorrow when you stomp on it, but can also get respectable fuel economy when driven normally.

I'd like to start a race where the goal is to run your demon out of gas before the other competitors.

This reminds me of the people who pay $ridiculous for the biggest baddest Diesel pickup ever and then whine about having to buy DEF because it's such a hardship.
Your truck cost more than the house I am sleeping in, your argument is invalid.

I guess. If I HAVE to. But dammit I won't like it.

It's like Uncle Ben said to Peter Parker. With great power comes great fuel consumption.

You just need 4 more minivans.
I make MAYBE 125 to the wheels. Best economy so far is 19.4
Its amazing how much difference 25 years makes
Used hellcat prices are dropping. Really makes one think..... A local tuner can pick up a ton of power with just a tune ;)

That article was painful to read....just poorly done. 22mpg is pretty amazing considering the car's potential. What is more amazing is how docile the Demon and Hellcats are when you aren't stomping on them. My 70 year old Mom could easily take a Demon to the grocery store, and never know that she was driving a monster. Tall side-walls, spring rates from a Chrysler 300, and a comfy interior make the Demon a Bob Costascat in daily driving. It isn't until you put it in "Drag" mode and unleash it that the world gets all blurry.
Sound like a Bruce Springsteen guitar solo? What is that supposed to mean? No no...... the Demon engine when lit, sounds like a bear eating a cat....it really does. You can hear the deep roar, and above it a high-pitched supercharger scream.....like a cat being mauled. It's pretty awesome.
I love that FCA is making these crazy things.
