Martin Brundell once said it's the most brilliant chassis he's ever driven.

Seriously, I want to understand how such a disproportionate amount of automotive goodness comes out of the Atlanta area.
Cosworth. The magic word.

cuz. The magic word that will make me not buy a car from that guy.
That car was posted for sale in Craigslist, Orlando area last week. Not sure if its a legit seller.

And Ayrton Senna agreed with him.
I really thought that the 190e 2.3-16 was a complete letdown to drive. The US spec 167hp motor was totally underwhelming
I'd rather have an E30 325is.

I'm pretty sure I've seen those same photos elsewhere in the past, too.
I test drove one of these cars for a friend (it was for sale locally, he was out of town) and thought it was pretty nice. I still prefer BMWs but if I had to own a Mercedes this would be the one to get.
Keep the 325i M3-wannabes and Merc 2.3-16s... gimme an XR4TI. Oh wait, I've already got one.
In reply to ditchdigger:
Yup . . .US got boned on that one . . .
- Europe = 185 hp at 6,200 rpm and 174 ft·lbf at 4,500 rpm
- US = 167 hp @ 5800 rpm and 162 lb·ft @ 4750 rpm

How different is the UK spec motor? I've heard rumors that the cylinder head design was very advanced and chocked by the rest of the motor, meaning easy bolt-ons.
It's most likely emissions controls that are responsible for the difference in power output.
It might be the favorite of the cars that I have owned. I would own another.
Emission controls and almost a full point of compression lost 10.5 vs 9.7
I see the MB 190 series becoming the next "oooohh, wanna toss an LSx into that" car for the masses. I personally love the stance, and utility of a sedan is a great thing to have when you need it. Ive been keeping MB 190 build thoughts floating around the back of my head for a little while now...

Here you go!
Though that guy is a mechanical engineer or something, so he's measuring three or four times before getting to the cutting. I can't wait, myself.
I've owned two and would buy another. They rock!
I want a 300E 124 chassis with an LSx swap. The 260E was available with a five speed gear box so the clutch pedal is already there or would bolt in from a junker. An LSD from a 500E would fit also.
Speaking of the 500E that was a monster but only available with an autotragic.
The 190E 2.3 16valve was current when I worked for Mercedes. The gear box was the best I had ever driven. The enfine even in US spec was a dream and made wonderful sounds. The chassis and suspension were well sorted, and the seats were great, no centre in the rear tho. They were done by Reccaro if I remember correctly.

I really shouldn't want one, I know they're nothing special performance wise, and it's really just a 80s body kit slapped on with some bigger wheels (yes yes and a Cosworth motor) but I REALLY WANT ONE. This thread is full of win, now go buy it...
also ironic that the picture show palm trees, def. FL in the background, but since it claims to be near where I work, I could go look it over for someone...
Definitely want, even with the neutered USDM engine. I always felt the late 80s-early 90s M-B lineup was the best looking of the modern Mercedes.

I would argue that anyone buying an E30 M3 isn't doing it for the omgwtfbbq performance either. The Cossie Mercs are quite a bit rarer, so they peg the cool meter imho.
Time for another GRM board cliche:
Of COURSE it's in Atlanta!

or ONLY in Atlanta, as in:
Comment: $500 Miatas are a dime a dozen around here
Retort: ONLY in Atlanta... which translates to OIA
-or-
Comment: Where else are you going to find a rust free running Lancia Beta for <$1000
Response: OIA

Comment: I picked up a ZAV the other day, doesn't have a title but it's got 33" mudders, is stripped out, steats 8 with 2 for shooting and comes pre-painted in cammo and her name is Rebel...
Retort: OIA
see, it works on so many levels
