Anyone know how or where the adjustment mechanism is on these, or if they can even be adjusted without some special dispensation from the heavens? What a PITA! Thanks,

It's a hole, next to the rubber bump stop for the hood. Shining a light down into the hole, you'll see a crown type adjuster. Use a phillips screw driver to tune the adjuster.
