Now you're getting it. My challenge car's original asking price was $1200. 6 weeks later I bought it for $300.

Here is a long and length but very insightful read about the car selling business.
I highly recommend taking the time to read it.

Sho 'nuff, they called this morning. Here's the brief recap since my last post:
-Drove 50 miles to test drive another Outback last night. Same miles and year as the original car, but a base rather than a Limited. This one has a slipping clutch and the dealer is installing a new one today or tomorrow. They offered it in writing for what I consider a reasonable price, which is a few hundred bucks below what I had offered on the Limited at sales dooshes dealership. Very nice and easy going sales guy and manager at this other (non-Subaru) dealer. -Guy who looked at the BMW is not going to make an offer because his body guy said it would be $700+ to fix the rust spot--he recommended replacing the door. Seems like overkill, but the rust is at the very bottom so maybe not. -Voicemail from sales doosh this a.m. said that the notes on my file were not clear so he wanted to see what transpired yesterday. -I sent an e-mail to sales doosh telling him about my field trip to drive the other car and asking for his best offer and a copy of the carfax. Indicated that there is no point in investing any more time unless they really want my biz.
My dad swears by the car buying process here: http://excarsalesman.typepad.com/
He has bought a few cars. I haven't tried it yet, but I might because it looks good.
