I've seen cheap wheels break off in crashes too, leaving a sharp ragged stump of a steering column to impale the driver. IMO it's a safety item.

Michael, you're talking about a diameter that's very close to the stock Miata wheel. That might be a cheaper solution that is still a safe, rigid wheel...........or any junkyard wheel with the same spline. FWIW, the steering wheel from a 1972 Corolla will fit, just in case you may have one laying around....wink

I'd prefer a 350 mm but it's nice having the extra leverage to turn sticky 255/40R17 tires with no power steering. It also doesn't obstruct my shift lights. If I could lower my seat 1/2" to 1" I'd go back to the 350 mm wheel.
