Nice! Am I dreaming?
Have you seen Waking Life? If not, now is the time. It's even the same kind of boat..

I want to start with an S10, but stop at the same point you were at in pic #1. Are there more pics of that stage of the build?
Holy hell that's awesome. The part that really made me laugh though- the boat was on a trailer...that needed to be on a trailer. Hahahahahahaha.
haha... Thanks guys, I needed a laugh this morning.
On a serious note, please don't pull someone on a skateboard unless you want to spend the night in the hospital. It's a really bad idea to simulate a waterski wipeout on asphalt. Ask me how I know.
I love it! Looks like the bow is going to create some er, unusual aeros. You think the front is light now... wait till 60 MPH.

...maybe some cutouts/vents to make the air exit at the top instead of getting trapped under the bow.
Bravo! Love to see this thing in action.
Now for bonus points, be sure to cast off a line when you pull into the pits. Or have your entire crew dressed like Gilligan. Or put a big old brass bell on the front to ring if someone's slowing you down. Man, the possibilities are endless here. Good luck!
I'm on a boat is a little obvious, here's an alternative:

NOTE: NSFW language. You know berkeley it, its Friday!
Well, the boat was a hit and it was actually shockingly reliable. We had to cut a bit out of the bow to get more airflow to the radiator to stop an overheating issue. We were consistently around 1:4x laps on the NJMP Lightning track with Sonic turning our fast lap of 1:34. Not fast by any means but not the slowest thing on the track. We won IOE and a grand time was had by all.
We did, actually, pull people around the paddock like water skiers, both on roller blades and on a skateboard. The only person that fell while being pulled was Sonic and his claim is that he tried to "dig in" like you do while water skiing, but witnesses claim a shark jumped at him. I fell as well, but that was after the boat was put away and the moonshine had come out so I suspect it had little to do with the skiing.
Pictures, video, and more details might follow if we ever get caught up on our day jobs.

Dude! I'm glad you made it home in one piece.
You said it...a grand time was had by all. Once we got past the teething issues of the boat (overheating, timing, mirror adjustment) that thing could leave quite a wake. The speedometer stopped working properly on Sunday, so I don't know how fast I was going on the front stretch. I'd guess 95-100mph, and I was shocked how firmly planted it was. The Civic wagovan actually felt like it had more lift. I cranked out some 1:37 laps in the boat, which was the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel. Winning the IOE was just icing on the cake.
Rollerblading behind the boat was awesome. We played it smart, we were just idling in first gear, so we went slow. The boat was a huge hit. I had a great time with the build. Sonic deserves so much credit for the idea and making it happen. Sheer awesomeness!!!!
Can't wait to run again with the team. And dculb, I realized half way home I didn't pay you for the helmet. I owe you. Catch up at Summit Point or New Hampshire (October)?
Here are a few pictures. First one is me behind the wheel. Second is the boat in race traffic (not sure who was driving in this one).

Sonic is the man. I am so glad he's let me be a participant in this madness, and am only sad that I'm too far away to help with the build(s).
No problem on the helmet, I'll be at Summit Point so if you're there we'll settle up then. I'm just glad it got put to use.
Nice work guys, we were there in the yellow mustang with the 60's fenders, definitely enjoyed seeing the boat and that was one of the 2 cars that I did not want to collide with under any circumstances. Loved hearing I'm on a boat blasting with someone "skiing" behind it.

SO berkeleying AWESOME!!! MASSIVE props for making it to C&D's site, as well.
This was a concept when it was described to me in my kitchen in the Fall. Amazing to see it come to life and function perfectly.

Yep, that was me and either dculberson or Sonic skiing behind it. Happy to report there were no major skiing accidents....
I very much remember your car. In fact, I have a picture up on my wall here at work with me driving the boat in heavy traffic. One of the cars in that traffic is yours. I'd bet a lap or so after this picture, you were ahead of me.
Awww shucks guys...
Really though, this was completely a team effort, that could only have happened with everyone and everyone's effort. The core 4 team members all worked their butts off: Jeff and Jim were here nearly every weekend, and Chrissy was either working on the car, or working on other things around the house to give me more time to work on the cars. Steve and Ohms were here as much as they could, and we needed the time that everyone put in.
At the track, everyone pitched in to keep things running smoothly, and everyone did a great job driving, turning clean laps after clean laps, and doing a good job of staying out of the way of the faster cars.
It really was a fantastic weekend, and the IOE was the icing on the cake. That was a long term goal with the Boat, but we got it the first time out. At this rate, of the 5 lemons races I've run, we have won IOE in 3 of them. We won't be able to keep that pace up.
Anyone want to drive the Boat at Summit Point? We have two spots open for the 2 car team...

Amen to this my friend. I owe my wife big time for keeping everything going at the house and giving me the time to come help on the build.
Check your e-mail. Let me know when the deadline for Summit Point is. If there's any way on the planet I can make it, I'll be there. I'm hopelessly addicted. Even if I can't make the race, you know I'm in to help work on the Dustbuster or whatever to help the team.
You'll need to log in to post.
