Air Filter BRANDS

What brand do you guys use? I've got a Spectre on my car right now, and while it WORKS, i'm not real psyched about that stupid plastic cone getting eaten by my turbo.

Need a cone/pod/whatever with a 3" inlet.

The fact that there seems to be over 2,000 options is a little daunting. I'm not wanting to spend $150 for a filter, but i'm not wanting to cheap out, either. $50-$75 is acceptable for a good quality part.

Suggestions?

K&N. Mine is dirty, slightly ripped, and probably smells a little. But its a well constructed cone filter, 3" opening, with metal mesh covering the element, and has a metal cap...not likely to get munched.

I'm a fan of K&N and WIX (whatever the paper filter is that carquest franchises sell).

Anyone used the AEM Dryflow filters?

Overpriced from what I've seen.... but the concept is sound. Personally, when it's time to replace the filter on the SRI for my ms3, I'll go k&n.

I've used Dryflow, and I talked my dad into one for his 347 stroker build. I love it. For non-MAF cars they're fine but I don't like the idea of using an oiled filter for something that's so easily affected by moisture.

FWIW, I dont oil my K&N for that reason. I dont notice any problems with not oiling it.

They seem to be within $10 of the comparable K&Ns, unless you have a source for cheap K&N?

A nice big 9" AEM with 3" inlet/outlet/whatever seems to run me $55 shipped.

I have an AEM Dryflow on the Cobb SRI for my Speed3 and it works just fine. The combo has never thrown a CEL at me.

I'm considering Amsoil's filters next for my turbo RX-7 since the old cone filter is looking pretty beat-up. Anyone have experience with those?

K&N invented them, K&N provides the military at cost, and K&N is still the best. If you're getting oil on a MAF you're doing it wrong. They are supposed to be lightly spritzed. Everything else is an expensive paper/foam filter and will degrade and need to be replaced. The K&N's really do last forever. Clean & oil and you're done.

Has anyone used a foam pod filter from a motorcycle on a car before? You can get a universal UNI filter with a 3" i.d. boot for ~$20.

I have one on my RB20. It works great, no oil, no dirt sticking to it, and it doesn't complain.

When I bought the motor set it had a K&N on it and it gushed oil all over my maf. No matter how much I cleaned it. I don't like Oil type filters any way, the oil will always hold dust, and whether or not that's good I think the paper or filter media should do that. And running with out oil on a K&N would reduce its filtering ability, and I'd rather not abrade my turbo compressor slowly.

I think I paid about $45 for my filter, and its a really weird 5inx6inx6in filter. It seems on par with every thing else, and I'm never buying a K&N for a maf based car again.

I run K&N filters on the tow van and the work van because I tend to collapse the paper ones. I have heard about the problems with over oiling them, but never had a issue with it. The Abomination has something like a K&N on it. The Roadmaster has a Fram in it at the moment. The Wife's van has whatever Jiffy Lube puts on it.

it's Fram- they say it's good "even after the 20th wash", but what happens after the 21st wash?

I run Purolator on my dd's and K & N on the turbo inlet to the RX-7.
