On Friday, 11-25, my son and I will take off from home to go pick up this car from Basil Exposition:

https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/open-classifieds/mg-midget-vintage-racer/122695/page1/

After we load up and finalize the purchase on Saturday 11-26, we will be heading up to the Fort Worth area to look at and hopefully buy some TVR parts from Orphancars. Then we will be heading back home from there.

I'm posting this to hopefully get some road support along the way if needed, and any and all other suggestions that might enhance this trip, like places to eat along the way, etc.. We will be pretty much driving straight thru to get there and back. Our goal is to be back home on Sunday, 11-27. So we won't have time to do anything off the route or that takes any extra time, but any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

What's your planned route?

In reply to petegossett:

I haven't determined that yet, and probably should have before posting this, but it will be the most direct route between Akron Ohio and Houston Texas. Maybe I need suggestions on that as well, because sometimes what looks like the best way isn't.

You're welcome to stay in the Grosh bedroom when you get down here. I'm in New Caney which is a bit north of Kingwood off 59.
I'd better check with Mrs. Deuce to make sure we're back from Thanksgiving by then, but if we are the offer is open.

He's in Spring, so that's pretty close. My plan, because of time constraints is to take off as soon as our business is concluded, but that's if things go as planned, which as you probably know they sometimes don't. So I appreciate the offer. Let me know after you verify that you will be home and maybe we can exchange contact info.

I can't help but I do know that Akron was once the rubber capital of the world (I'm in the hose and rubber business).

Looking at my interstate map, it appears there is no direct connection. the map is old so that coul change.

Try google maps or map quest or any trip adviser site.

No personal experience with the route, but it looks like the shortest route down through TN & AK puts you on a non-interstate toll road through TX. If no one chimes in stating otherwise, I'd be tempted to head south to Birmingham, cut over to Meridian & head south toward the coast, just to stay on the interstate the whole way.

Here you go, from google maps. 1280 miles, 19+ hrs.

Start, I-76, I-71, I- 65s, I-40W, I-30W, US 59S.

Hope that helps.

sorry, didn't do the return trip. Looks like 30 and 71 etc.

Taking US 59 out of houston then I30 to I40 to I65 then I71. I've done that many times and it's not a bad drive. You only have Nashville, Louisville, and columbus as major cities you will have to drive through. The pull across Tennessee and Kentucky is pretty hilly but it's not horrible.

I am most likely going to be headed to the Fort Worth area from Houston, and then home from there.

Ahh. Well, you just go I-45 to DFW and take I20 across to Ft Worth. Warning: Downtown Ft. Worth on I35W is an absolute mess with construction. Not sure what part of Ft. Worth your destination is but avoid I20 to I820 on I-35W at a minimum if you can in Ft. Worth.

Option #2 if you want to avoid Downtown Dallas is to go you can take 287. Just depends on your appetite for 2-4 lane non interstate. On your way out of town, you can hook up with I-30 and get headed back home.

Since you mentioned TVR stuff, I wanted you to be aware of this ad in Ohio if you haven't seen it yet: http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/5871414756.html

I'm in Fort Worth and even FW having 35W under construction from Downtown FW all the way to Alliance airport it's still less traffic than Dallas at lunch time.

Where do you have to go to get your TVR parts and what day & time will you be here. I know plenty of great eating joints and could be talked into joining you.

I'm in Ft worth. What kinda food? Rodeo goat has awesome burgers, main st BBQ is all you can eat for $15, magnolia street has some very tasty/fancy/hipster places, red neck heaven is a fun breastarant, vintage grill is a car museum and restaurant that is about 30 minutes out of your way, the riata has a jalapeño quail dish that is good.

Our destination in FW is not far from the intersection of Bonds Ranch road and 287.

That's fine, I have to eat too.

Pattyo323 we have to talk. I've never tried Main St. BBQ (which Main Street, there are several) and didn't know anyone had a BBQ buffet. Have you been to Heims? They do something different about theirs and it's always juicier than the others plus their Baked Potatoe potato salad is awesome!

We seldom eat without the addition of good live music.
