Folks,

Any recommendations for good tires for the wife's AWD Element?

Looking for a tire that will give 40k miles of service at a decent price. Haven't found that majic combo in the Peoples Republic of Boulder...(yet)

TIA,

Rog

A tire that lots of folks here use on that type of vehicle is the General Altimax HP. Since you're in Boulder I think you might want something that has better snow performance as that was tire rack's only big complaint about it.

I've heard enough good stuff about Cooper tires lately, that I may give them a shot next time I need tires.

I run Riken Raptors on my Passat and it's unstopable in the snow. Good price and with 25K miles on mine nearly no wear.

I like Continentals and have good luck with them. Not the cheapest but not horribly expensive either. I use the Conti Extremes DWS which stands for Dry, Wet, Snow if memory serves correctly. Anyway, good all season tire. Being in Colorado you may want a dedicated winter tire.

I always used Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S on my Element in stock size. They worked well enough off-road and in rain and snow with the 4WD, and lasted a very long time.

I mean I didn't go mudding with them, but dirt trails and gravel were fine

Update:

Put General Grabber HTS tires on the Element. Just completed a 300 mile round trip to the mountains in COLD, snowy weather with lotsa crap on the road.

Car/tires were faultless. Nice tires.
