They are all out, and John Doonan has confirmed that none will be returning to the track...
I think the SpeedSource car is the only one doing the whole season.

Which is sad, but given GX isn't a "real" class, more of a catch all for everything else....
Technically, all three of the Mazda6s in Daytona were built and prepared by SpeedSource.
I am disappointed with this.
And every piece had to be custom made. I think I heard that they didn't get the cars until a few days before the race. All they had were the engines prior to that.

The engines ran a bunch of hours on the dyno, but were not installed in a chassis until the roar before the 24 where they found a TON of cooling issues. No airflow to the intercooler was one problem...
They only had a single car ready just in time for the test a few weeks back. Even then, it was only just ready, and didn't even have time for paint. Since the test, they had to finalize the test car, and build two more and prepare them as well. Busy busy in that shop over the last couple of months. I'm surprised they made it, honestly.
I am also dissapointed. Maybe they can get some set up and development done before the next race. Good luck to them. We need an alternative to VW for affordable Diesel passenger cars.
As a former employee of Speedsource and current fan, it was a disappointing result. However, even if all the cars had performed flawlessly the Caymans were 5 seconds faster per lap. There was no chance of competing. Seems like the rules could use some adjustment.

I'll wait to hold judgement on this.......if the skyactives are just slow, and the Cayman is within the rules , I see no issue other than build a faster car.
One of the caymans was 4 seconds clear of the other two. This is just indicative of a brand new class with a complete lack of development.
Napleton knows their Caymans, and they have been working on racing Caymans for about 4 years now. Of course they are going to put on a good show.

Most definitely. Hopefully despite the lackluster start we can see some good things with diesels coming up and a surge in interest.

Considering it's not like the Mazda is really in the same class as the Cayman on the streets and the the parity is supposed to come from the rules I'd say the rules need to be adjusted.

Like others said though, it really isn't all that surprising. The program was cobbled together at the last minute and teething issues were expected.
It's probably all the Bosch crap on it... LOL. J/K!

The Mazda shares almost nothing with it's street car compatriots. The new Mazda6 Skyactive racer is a rear wheel drive, tube frame racer based on the outgoing RX8 with a slightly longer wheelbase.
The Caymans, on the other hand, come off the assembly line as street cars in Zuffenhausen...
Sure, the Mazdas need MORE to be competitive...
