Dude was born the same year as me. He's one of the many I used to watch as a teen racing in Vauxhaull Lotus then F3 etc.

I loved watching him when things would go wrong and he'd drive in anger to make up time.
I hope he will show up again driving something for fun.
Here is 33 minutes of him discussing driving skills:

Wow. I've seen him take the checkered in several countries. What a legacy.
I have a funny Allan McNish story that shows you how humble and real the guy is. About ten years ago, I was invited to an Audi event at Mosport, a showcase of all their current lineup. It was a drizzling, miserable day. Went to get a coffee before the presentation, and the guy at the coffee urn pours a cup, then hands it to me with a lovely smile. I thanked him for his kindness, then found my seat.
After the presentation, they called up the guests of honour, Dindo Capello and Allan McNish. It was my coffee guy.
He really has had a great career. I'm sure he has a lot left in him but also sure he has his reasons for stopping now. I hope we hear what his other opportunities are.

Seriously, why don't you write for GRM? (hint; hint Suddards) You'd be awesome with just your behind the scenes quips, let alone the way you write.

Hell yeah

You don't always need good tech to tell a good story. The writing of yours I've read on line is funny and informative and dare I utter it, but of better quality and readability than some of the magazine content. SSssshhhhhh.
It was nice knowing you all, I'll probably get banned for that last comment. Ask Margie to dedicate a flag stone to me on her next patio.

"I've had fantastically successful time with Audi and feel it's the right time to step back from Le Mans sports-prototype racing and to look at other opportunities,"
Sounds to me like he's not leaving racing altogether, just Lemans.
Maybe he'll just change one letter and show up at a Lemons race?
In reply to jstein77:
Well, originally I was thinking Porsche's comeback(they did get him his first win afterall).....but by the sounds of it, he is done with playing the odds.
He just made things easier for us. Janel was conflicted, she's a big Webber fan as well as McNish. Now she can cheer for Porsche with a clear conscience.

Ah, tech is easy. It's the sticking together words part that's hard.

Love it, she and I both.

No no no, you ladies all need help. Webber (AKA 'The Convict') is the second coming on the devil. If you want to swoon over a Porsche driver Derek Bell was always popular with the women back in the day.

You just think that because he's Australian....and a better driver than you are....and better looking.... wait, yeah that's why I hate him :)
Derek Bell was at the Porsche dinner I went to in Los Angeles recently, he arrived with Danny Sullivan.
Right, I ban people left and right... PATIO!
This is why I rarely read or post on the board anymore, save from my morning spam roundup.

You're just busy.

It's because your patio is already built.

You know we're just joking right? We love having you around.

There's a really tacky joke in there somewhere....

You think I have such well-defined reasons to hate a driver? Come off it. I don't like him because I don't like him, simple as that. I'm a sports fan and therefore have no reason to be rational about anything.
But I will disabuse your incorrect assumptions. I have nothing against Aussie drivers, Alan Jones was one of my first Motorsport hero's. I always rooted for Chris Atkison in WRC. David Brabham was another favorite (he’s another guy I watched many times in F3 in the late 80’s) for his ‘almost’ getting into F1 and for being a factory Jaguar driver. So nothing against the convict colony.
Better looking and faster than me! Crap, I’d hate everyone if those were my criteria for hate, but I’m not a Republican so I can’t hate that many people(a)
(a) Please note 1)I am already residing under Margie’s patio and am posting from beyond the ban and 2) There were smilies attached so I was at least 87.3% joking in this comment.
Sorry for posting like a siamese cat I once had (she'd play with you for approximately two dainty paw swipes before she switched paws/phasers to "kill"--NO sense of humor in that one). Too much going on, too busy, all make Margie a dull girl. Please return to original topic, nothing to see here folks.
