I've wanted to stop at this place for years, always driving by it on our way to the NC outer banks on vacation but always with wife/baby in the car, so no stopping to look :(

Anyhow, today I finally ran up there by myself to check it out. It's a car restoration place, but they also have a huge lot of old cars (mostly American, but a few imports) in varying states of decent, decaying, or pretty much goners. Chatted with the owner a bit - turns out he owns 2 restaurants in Va. Beach area and used to own a strip club that I used to bike by as a child, lol.

Anyhow, the place is in NC, just a few miles south of the VA/NC border on Rt 168 (coastal).

I just took a bunch of pics. Did ask him about what he'd ask for the Datsun 1600 Fairlady, which had a ton of rust, and he said something about $3k, which I tried not to chuckle at, seeing as he was a nice guy and pretty damn big too :)

Some pics for you guys. There were about a dozen different vintage Mustangs varying from very good to dreadful condition.

Fairlady 1600

Opel GT

Awesome ZAV-wagon with manual roll-down rear window

No zombie could ever stop this. In fact, I'm pretty sure they'd limp away as fast as they could if this was in the neighborhood.

another 1600, non-fairlady

aww yeah. I can see some hippie smoking pot while driving it

ghia

This was probably so super pimp in 1982

There were several Corvairs there, including this nice-condition sedan and a wagon (never seen a corvair waggy before), also in restorable shape. I stupidly didn't get a shot of the wagon, grr....

in case anyone wants location/contact info

Neat selection - pretty rough though. That zombie Chevy panel truck looks like a decent candidate.

There were plenty of cars in good shape there too...but they're not nearly as much fun to take pics of :)

btw, I thought that Chevy was an early Suburban, no?

If I am not mistaken, that is a 1977 AMC Hornet AMX. Should feature a 304ci V8. That Targa band is worth it's weight in gold, the louvers in silver.

Why did you call the one a fairlady, and say the other wasn't?

NO...zombies will figure out the rear crank and let themselves in thankyouverymuch.

...and I too have devilish dreams of the things Id do to a Datsun roadster

because after 5 hours of driving my brain was fried.....and I meant to say that one was "badged" as a fairlady and one was badged as a 1600..., though IIRC fairlady badging was only used in Japan.

The guy who owned the place was super-pissed that someone had stolen the radiator caps from both cars during the previous few weeks, lol.....Is there something special about the rad caps on these cars?.

Clearly the crank would need to be flipped over to the inside, so the rear machine-gunner could roll down the glass before firing at chasing zombies...

I miss my old econoline. Great old truck. Just don't hit anything. There's not a whole lot between you and the outside world.

Is this the place: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=36.53264,-76.183738&spn=0.007716,0.016512&t=h&z=17

It looks like there is a Corvette specific yard just down the road a ways, too.

yep, that's the place. Looks to be a recent shot as all the same cars are there.

I asked him if he had any old Subarus and he said no, but he had just crushed an old Brat (after selling the jumpseats for $300) and an old DL wagon. I was hoping that maybe he had an old Justy 4WD there or something, lol.

Lot had no European cars that I saw other than the Opel. Since all the cars there were in open storage, and this is near the coast, all the old Brits had probably turned to pure rust.

I've never noticed a Corvette yard (having driven this road maybe a dozen times), but there are various scrapyards, overgrown car lots along the way that probably have quite a bit of fun finds if one were inclined to look.

I know that EXACT place too. I've driven down 3 times, and every time I go by it I want to stop but SWMBO is getting cranky from being in the car so long.

Thanks for stopping and snagging the pics. Makes me glad I didn't stop since I had the Jeep this year and could have towed something back home.

^^ nice find. The guy didn't strike me as the type that would have a great website with pics of (most) of the cars on-site, so I didn't even think to look online. I didn't see the Datsun's on his site though, or the Opel.

I thought Ghias had fully welded bodies. I wonder what the deal is with the flipper front end.

I'm merely helping you guys by finding the websites, not really interested in impressing you.
