What makes this place great is that there is no correct answer to this. And more importantly everyone here is tolerant of the wide variety of cars that people have here. I have actually had many of the cars listed in this thread and others listed here I have lusted after. What makes this place cool is the tolerance for the "uncool".
I really think that this thread is a wast of time. It is a negatively oriented thread that is finding the bad in things. One of the things I really like about this place is that no matter what type of car you post up about people seem to find the positive or at very least hold there tongue if they find disdain for the ride you post about.
I have no interest in anything made by BMW and will probably never own one. Miates are good for suspension parts, but I have no urge to own one for longer than it takes to strip it. P71? I can take it or leave it. So "The Answer" is just wrong.
Hell, I don't even like Porsche.
Give me the odd and the different. Smoking a BMW with a Lumina or a Tempo might be impossible, but I would have more fun trying than just buying a BMW.
Different is good.

That being said, I believe it depends on who you ask. One may say Chrysler K-cars, but another absolutely loves them.
I know at least one person that loves K cars.

I've had 5 Tempos. You can't kill them. Its the Toyota Hilux of Ford.
I can.
Did you even try to turn the engine over? It would have started.
Any Audi from the 'terminal CEL era'!
I'll let my bias show and say anything ever made by Ford. Can't stand Fords.

Hmm... or pretty much any VAG product from the early-90's onward.
I own a '03 TDI but rarely recommend anyone buy a VW.

On that we agree.
Suzuki Swift is never the answer here.
Of all the times I've recommended one to people looking for a dirt cheap, reliable, indestructible car that's great on gas, not a single person has taken me up on it.

Gotta be something like a mid 90's Chevy Lumina
My son owned a 1995 OBD1 when he was in high school - Basic projects were really a challenge to me. I was really happy the day I sold it.
Evidently the Jaguar X-Type isn't the answer. At least from what I've been told - but I refuse to listen.
Even the best candidate here is great for back 40 racing or unofficial demo derby

I finally drove a P71 a few months ago. What an epic pile of fail. I completely am perplexed why a vocal minority feel this car is the answer. I dont doubt that it can be made ok but out of the box it sucks. At least the miata is a pretty great car stock. The E30 is great except the steering rack. I have literally driven trucks with quicker steering ratios than E30s
See, you're looking at it wrong. Look at it as the family truckster: It can tow most things that most people will need, it can seat 5 large people in comfort, it can get 25 MPG on the highway (others will say higher, but in my experience with one that isn't likely), and it is about 10 times a better driving experience than most SUV's.
That, and imagine that backseat (heck, the front seat worked too!) when you were in highschool.
I miss my Crown Vic. Of course, I also miss my SAAB, so I'm clearly not a great judge of character.

Could make a decent DD, especially in the future when you can drop in a cheap aftermarket replacement battery.
Wouldn't this never be the answer?
I mean who could ever consider it "grassroots"?
I drove one of these for a summer. My dad said "If you can get it running, you can have it", as it had been sitting in a field for nearly 5 years.
Probably one of the scariest cars I've ever driven. Didn't even flush the brake fluid...
We seem to talk people out of IS300s whenever they ask about them
Anything "numbers-matching" where there are people who care about said car being so.
McLaren F1
C4 ZR1
Corolla S
Malibu MAXX
Mustang II Mach 1
Mitsubishi Diamante
I've always wanted to build an early 90's GM FWD (Celebrity, Cutlass Ciera, etc.) for performance just for Lolz
